Asher
"Oh, hello, Mr. Monteil. How are you this fine afternoon?"
"Great. I wanted to ask you something...Lara."
"Of course. I am happy to be at your service, sir."
"My wife came through here last week. Exactly a week ago. Did she seem off to you?"
"No, sir. She actually offered me a job in New York. I haven't been able to get in contact with her since then."
"Odd..."
"Is she alright? Is there something wrong?"
"No, no, she's fine. I'm trying to put a few puzzle pieces together. I'll make sure she knows you're willing to come to New York with her."
"Thank you, sir. Do you want me to tell Mr. Henderson you're coming up?"
"Yes. We'll need the conference room. Phone Taylor and Dylan."
"Of course, sir. Enjoy your day."
"You, too."
That was a bust. Lexi is always friendly with the receptionists. It's like she has some weird bond with their role. She never sees eye to eye with the board. Maybe there's something about how much time they devote to her success. Maybe if I talk to Taylor, she can shed some light on everything.
Lexi and Taylor have always had a strong bond. Lexi thought of Taylor as her little sister and Taylor gladly accepted being Lexi's favorite at work. I never understood their relationship, and I never cared to ask. I know for a fact I can trust Taylor to tell me everything Lexi said last week. I'm sure they had a conversation. There's no way Lexi didn't talk to her.
"Hold the elevator!" I put my foot in front of the sensor. Isabella smiled at me. "Thanks, handsome."
"No problem," I muttered.
"What are you doing here? I thought Lexi went back home."
"No..."
"She's still here? She texted us saying she was going home and canceled our plans."
"When?"
"Thursday morning. Look."
Isabella pulled up her chats and showed me the message Lexi had sent her.
"I tried asking if she was fine, but she didn't answer us. I texted Sha'Kera to see if she knew anything, but she hasn't answered either."
"Sha'Kera's having a little trouble of her own. I don't think she knows anything about Lexi's whereabouts."
I sighed and shoved my hands in my pockets. I won't be able to find her like this. There's no way Lexi sent them a text at 10am. She called Brad around 4am. Someone must have known her plans for the week.
"Lexi decided she wanted to hang out with my family and Natalia. It was some last minute plans, so no one should have known about that."
"You know she's missing, don't you?"
"Asher, I pick up on a lot of things. I didn't go to the police, because I knew she'd gotten in contact with someone before it happened. She's never unprepared. It's better I leave it to you guys. I know the type of work Lexi does. It was only a matter of time before she got into trouble again."
"Is there anything else I should know?"
"Not that I know of." Isabella seemed to think for a moment. "She did mention Samantha spoke to her Tuesday morning. She seemed peeved about it, but when is she not mad about something Samantha's done?"
