The week flew by as usual. The two guys went to their classes, worked on their class work, and went through their other daily routines. The topic of their drunken night wasn't brought up again. It was practically avoided at all costs. Neither of them was ready to talk about it.
Fall break was already upon them. It was a week off from their stress before exam season came in full swing. Their friends had decided on a weekend-long camping trip before they separated to spend the week with their families. They'd be going up towards the mountains, pitching tents, and enjoying what nature had to offer. Plus, they'd be bringing a ton of booze to keep themselves entertained.
"I wish we had rented a cabin," Gojo grumbled from the passenger seat. He clung tightly to his jacket as he gazed out of the window, watching the trees as they drove. "It's gonna be so cold."
"We'll have a campfire to keep us warm," Geto reminded him with a chuckle. "And we have a ton of blankets, too."
"Don't be surprised if you find me in your sleeping bag," Gojo remarked. It was meant to be a joke, but he was probably being completely serious deep down. And Geto didn't mind one bit.
"Aw, need me to spoon you for the weekend?" Geto teased while being dead-serious in his heart.
"You're sweet to offer," Gojo teased back in a sarcastically pleasant voice.
The sign for the campground came into view. It was wooden and worn down from age and harsh weather. CAMP KAISEN was carved in large, black-painted letters in the center of the sign. Overgrown bushes nearly covered it, but it was still readable to those looking for it.
"Shoko said parking was down the first road on the right," Gojo informed him. "We'll have to take the trail from there to find them."
"Gonna be able to make it to the campsite, city boy?" Geto grinned deviously.
"I might make you carry me if it gets too hard," Gojo quipped back with a cheeky smile.
They parked Geto's car, an SUV that is perfect for this kind of trip, and began unloading their supplies. Each grabbed their sleeping bag and personal bag, Geto grabbed the tent, and Gojo carried the bag of food and drinks. They had to hike half a mile to get to where the others were. Their cars were already parked and unloaded in the lot, so they were obviously waiting at the site.
The hike was nice, despite Gojo's quiet complaints. The air was crisp and fresh, smelling of sweet pine. Trees were still damp from the early morning rain that had already subsided by the time they had arrived. Scurrying squirrels rattled the leaves and treetops as they walked along the muddy trail. It was refreshing to be somewhere other than the bustling city.
"About time!" Shoko scolded with a soft smile. She was hunched over and helping Utahime put up their own tent. "I was starting to wonder if the wildlife ate you two."
"We took a wrong turn," Gojo loosely explained.
"Only because you told me the wrong directions," Geto added in a snappy voice.
"Wow, Satoru," Nanami scoffed from the opposite side of their designated spot. "You have a perfect GPA but can't read a map?"
Geto chuckled at the remark, resulting in a quick glare from Gojo.
"Let's see if the genius can put up a tent," Shoko giggled, only adding fuel to the fire.
"The only tent he can pitch is in his pants," Utahime teased along with them.
"You are all hilarious," Gojo groaned, dropping all the bags he held next to the spot where Geto had decided for their tent to be placed.
It took equal effort between the two of them to put together their tent. Slight bickering and teasing occurred, but it still managed to get done. Gojo's lack of experience with camping was quite evident throughout the process. It took a few tries and googling instructions for him to get it.
