Growing up I was always in my fathers shadow, when playing football the team I was playing for in my youth career expected me to be like my dad if not better than him, there was always a high expectation to be better. I then had to try and make a name for myself without being the son of Michael Owen so I took my mums name, eventually it came out that I was my dads son and that's when the bullying started but eventually the bullying went from verbally to physically, I would come home from training covered in bruises and they weren't bruises that would come from football, I would come home with battered ribs from where I'd get kicked after training, I came home one day from training with a black eye and my dad asked what happened, I would just say it was from an accident from training. But eventually it got worse.. it came to the point where I thought what's the point in living anymore, would anyone actually care? Would anyone miss me? The thoughts came to a stop when I left my youth club and signed for Liverpool professionally. But also it helped when one of my friends introduced me to this girl, who would eventually become my girlfriend and a woman who I trust my life with. She is the person who tells me that it's ok and it's ok not to be ok. And she is the person who I've loved for the past 7 years and hopefully for the next 70 years. I am thankful for you. Getting help isn't a weakness. It doesn't make you less of a man it will help you grow into becoming a better one. Don't let your ego, your masculinity or your emotional pain stop you from getting help.
