Chapter 16

One minute Espio was waking up from his trance to a stubborn black and red hedgehog kneeling beside him in concern. Next a flash of light swept the two of them up and Espio woke in a dark fortress chained to something. Soft whispers reached the ninja’s ears, straining his ears he heard, “Just think Shadow, if you accept my offer. You will not only be my personal battery but I will fill you up with pups and we can have a family” Espio recognised that voice. Mephiles! Slowly golden eyes opened to search the area only to land on Mephiles the Dark who seemed to pester Shadow who hung limply in his chains. “Ahh our guest is awake, did you sleep nicely. Lizard?”. Mephiles stalked forward like Espio was prey before grabbing his chin and forcing him to look up into grey eyes. 

“Shadow! Look, your friend is alive!” Mephiles mocked in a squeal that sounded like Amy. The chameleon groaned at the loudness but his groan was soon covered by cold lips pressing on his own, it caught him off guard. Espio bit the lips trying to explore his mouth, Mephiles shouted in pain, glaring at the chameleon. Espio smirked but he soon found out the consequence of his actions. As his body was electrocuted, his gasps of pain filled the room. “Stop it!” Shadow shouted from his side of the room. Mephiles flickered his wrist stopping the abuse and turned to face the ebony hedgehog. “And why should I?” Mephiles grinned when Shadow looked down. Espio thought his torture was about to start again when he heard two clinks. Looking towards Shadow, Espio frowned while Mephiles grin widened. Shadow the hedgehog had just released his inhibitor rings, “Take my energy but don’t hurt him” Shadow instructed while taking a deep breath. 

“No!” Espio cried out when Mephiles started the process of draining Shadow before moving to set up a live stream. “Shadow?” Espio whispered over to the ebony hedgehog who looked up. “What about the hoglet?” Espio’s whisper seemed to snap Shadow out of his selfishness. Fright filled the black and red hedgehog's face. After watching Mephiles, end the live stream by kissing Shadow. Espio decided a sacrifice would have to take place, he gathered as much chaos energy as possible and shot it in the crystal Mephiles was trying to power up, confusing Mephiles the dark. Espio smirked to himself, he would allow his powers to come out just this once. 

“Haha! You will do nicely!” Mephiles chuckled, forgetting about Shadow and turning the machines on full, directing the power from the purple chameleon. “Set me free and I will let you have it all. On my word” Mephiles grinned hearing the ninja’s word. Slowly Mephiles stalked over to the purple chameleon, “Why would you offer yourself like this?” he leaned closer only for soft purple lips to connect with his. Mephiles gasped out, feeling a power like no other. Soon Espio’s skin darkened to a navy colour, “Because, I have missed you, my love”. “Arlo?” Mephiles couldn’t believe it, his partner was in front of him. Without warning, Mephiles wrapped his arms around the navy chameleon with a shocked Shadow watching. 

Shadow watched with wide eyes as Mephiles used his powers to separate this ‘Arlo’ from Espio’s body. The purple chameleon’s body slumped, hanging his head in shame. Shadow frowned; it seemed the purple ninja had a few secrets he didn’t like to share, not that the ebony hedgehog could blame him. All Shadow knew was he had to get Espio out of here before the chameleon ceased to exist. A groan was heard from Espio when Mephiles lifted his chin, “I must say as a token of my appreciation. I thank you for the release of my mate and I will give you a choice. You can either die by chaos depletion or by torture or by my hand, right now. Oh and if you choose torture, I will not hurt Shadow” Mephiles grinned wickedly at the fuchsia chameleon who used the rest of his energy to glare, “Torture” Espio whispered. 

Mephiles smiled wickedly towards Shadow, “this is your fault by the way. Arlo would you do the honours” “Most certainly my love”. Espio didn’t know what hit him until his body was zapped with hundreds of bolts, he couldn’t do much so he remained silent but he did do one thing. He screamed mentally over a certain bond he had with someone close to him. Shadow remained quiet, trying to conserve as much energy as possible. After ten minutes of torture, Mephiles found himself growing bored when the chameleon didn’t respond one bit so he did the most horrid thing possible. He stalked over to the prisoners and grabbed Manic by the quills. “Manic!” “Get off my son!” Ignoring the pleas, Mephiles stalked in the purple chameleon’s direction and gave Manic an electric stick. “Electrocute him or I will kill your sister” he whispered into the green hedgehog’s ears. Manic looked up to see Espio give him a slight nod. Arlo frowned, turning the amp off so it was only Manic in control.
