The next time Nomita came to tend to me, change my linen and bring some soup, I was tempted to confined in her about my need for the rough book and pen but I dared not.
She just kept blubbering as I watched the outside view from the window area. When she was done, she left.
Same routine the day after and the next, next and the next. Day in, day out.
Then I heard a sudden knock on the door after Nomita had just left. What could she want again. I just stared at the door, awaiting.
In ran, a petite small well shaped young lady. She was probably of the same age as me. She was the definition of beauty. Actually extreme beauty.
She tied her hair in a ban and was clad in jeans. What jeans. Those were forbidden back home. Men's clothing.
She had large eyes just like Nomita's. Oh right, she's the Frayer. And she looked pretty educated and intelligent.
She probably got anything she ever desired. Just by looking at her and analyzing, she just depicted money. I mean great cash.
She smiled, "hello so sorry," she seemed shocked to see me. "I'd imagined to meet a really older bride for Uncle Kaffo. But your not really bad yourself," she exclaimed.
She doesn't even know how to make nice conversation, to make me feel any better.
I smiled back, "good you know," replying.
"Am Frayer," she introduced.
"I figured your," my mean reply.
"Your?" she didn't seem offended.
"Amandi Gwandi. Ama,"
"Oh cool. I like your hair," she continued and my hand went to my strands by reflex.
"Thank you," I said turning back to the window.
"Am looking for my mother Nomita. She was said to be here tending to you," she tried making conversation seeing my disinterest. I just stayed silent.
Then she moved closer to the window next to me.
"Its a beautiful view," she said.
She talks as much as her mother.
"Can I stay longer with you?" damn this girl. Did I have a choice.
I moved away to my bed. The last thing I wanted was getting close to anyone and hurt again.
"Hey I have some cards. Do you know how to play cards?" she asked.
Those games are only played by the men back home in Akwolle.
"You don't have to fear, we shall be discreet."
"No," was all I said.
"Okay," she said dis-motivated and loosing interest. I entered into the covers and closed my eyes.
I didn't wanna create any more connection with the Reinards, the two, Caleb and Kaffo we're already enough on my plate.
"You know you don't have to stay if you don't like it here," Frayer said standing. Moving to the door.
Getting my attention.
"Do you think I'd be here if I had a choice," I shouted. "I'd be home right now with my brother Lue," now crying. Tears seemed to be near my eyes every time I was provocked.
She came closer and sat on the bed, as I cried my eyes off. I lay my head on her shoulder.
She let me cry as she stroked my hair and rocked me.
I felt much better crying and having someone know my pain.
