My Prey (Prey: Hulu)

Chapter 4

We head back to the woods to get some more of the totsiyaa. Naru and I knelt down, cut some off the totsiyaa plant, put them in our bags, and went to find more.

While that is happening, we take the petals of the totsiyaa, and I hand some of them to Naru for her to put them in the small pouch that her mother gave her for us to find more totsiyaa. Naru sighs, and I turn my head to look at her, giving her a small smile. As she notices me looking at her and smiling at her, she smiles back, making me widen my smile more.

We both got up and started heading back home, but then something happens. We hear the tribespeople ululating and shouting, and it doesn't seem good. Then we see Itsee getting his weapon. "Itsee." I say, Itsee stops and turns around to look at us calling for him, "Hina?" Naru speaks Comanche. "A lion. It took Puhi. We gotta find him." Itsee turns around and starts running.

I turn my head to face Naru as she does the same thing. We were both silent, giving worried and concerned faces. 'Shit, this is really bad.' I thought. We both start running to catch up. I know we're not really supposed to, but Naru and I are great trackers, and so is Sarii.

We're back in the forest to catch up with them. As we caught up to them, Paaka said, "You two could get shot sneaking up like that." "Who's sneaking?" I say, Naru smiles, holding her bow, and we hear Taabe chuckling. "Who invented you two? We won't be gone long enough to need two cooks." I glare at him with a pissed-off face, and Paaka laughs. "They should stay. They both track well. And if we find Puhi alive, Naru knows medicine. And Y/N can make better fire faster than us." Taabe says, and he takes a step forward towards us, "You both have to find that cat now." "We will." Said Naru, "I know. 'Cause you both have to." I look at him with a small smirk, and Naru chuckles.

We all start running with our bows and arrows. Me, Naru, and Sarii take the lead in finding Puhi. Sarii is in front of us, waiting for us to find him. Sarii finds something as Naru and I go to see what he finds.

"Oh, good. The dog found shit." Said Wasape, making me turn my head to face him with an annoyed look, "We're not looking for wolves." Said Paaka, "It's not a wolf." I said annoyedly, "You see that crushed bone? That's lion scat. And the cat that made it was big." Said Taabe, I notice something on a leaf, like some kind of liquid on it. I walk to it and go to see what it is. I pick at the leaf, and there's blood on it.

Naru went to see what I found and saw the blood, and Taabe did the same. We continued on our walk to find Puhi. As we did, Sarii started barking and running towards something lying on the ground. It was Puhi! We all started running, and we saw him bleeding badly with claw marks on his chest.

Naru and I knelt down to feel Puhi's pulse to see if he was alive or not. And I found a pulse. I turn around to face Taabe, "He's breathing." "Petsü."  Taabe speaks Comanche to Sarii to follow him. All of us get to work to help Puhi, Taabe, and the warriors cut some wood to make a stretcher for Puhi so we can take him back home.

Naru puts powder on his chest for the wounds that the lion did to him; the powder helps the wounds heal. One of the warriors grabs a mushroom and hands it to Naru; she takes it and smashes it with her hands.

While that was happening, Itsee grabbed me some tree sap and handed it to me so I could make the fire and torches for us to use. Naru opens her pouch to take out some of the orange totsiyaa and puts it with the mushroom. She puts them in Puhi's mouth.

"So much could kill him." Itsee said, "It won't kill him. Just cool his blood." I hear Taabe coming and seeing what's happening. Naru pours water into Puhi's mouth for him to swallow the orange totsiyaa and mushroom.

I hear some gulps from Puhi, and he starts to speak in Comanche, "Anna. Anna." I lit up the torches and handed them all one. We got Puhi into the stretcher, and all of us started walking.

"Taabe wants to stay and hunt. Let's go." Said Wasape. "Hell no, we're not leaving." I glared at him and glared back, "We're coming with you." I say to Taabe, "I can handle the lion." Said Taabe, "No, it's not just the lion. Why is Puhi alive? There's something that scared the cat away from its den." I say to Taabe, "I've got this. Stay with Puhi. He needs your help too." Said Taabe, and he turned around to find and hunt the lion. "We don't have time to waste talking. We need to get him home." Said Wasape. As me and Naru turned to face him, he said, "ManamÜsohi." They started walking and taking Puhi back home.

Naru and I turn our heads, and knowing something else had scared the cat away, I turn my head to look at Naru, and she does the same thing. We both have the same face for what's happening right now. 'Something's telling me that this isn't right, I thought.
