Naru and I head back home to grab our supplies for food and medicine. I do sometimes come to visit her family to help them prepare dinner or for something that Naru's mother, Aruka, needs from me. She knows Naru and I are great friends, and she's proud of it.
We head to Naru's tipi tent, putting our stuff and weapons away while we start preparing food and medicine. Aruka pounds some powder with a rock, and Naru and I unpack our bags. Aruka spits some of the powder she was pounding on and rubs it with her palms as she starts glancing at us. Naru cuts the fish that the red-tail had with her axe. Aruka continues her work.
I start cutting up some of the carrots that Naru and I went to pick earlier. I glance at Naru while she puts her axe down, picks up the blade that was next to her, and slices the fish. She cuts off the tail and offers it to Sarii. "Petsü." Naru speaks in Comanche; Sarii takes the fish and leaves the tent. I smiled. 'Such a good dog,' I thought. Naru's mother chuckles, "Trained him well." She says it with a smile. "It's easy. He's smart." "Not every smart creature is easy to train." I listen to their conversation while slicing up the carrots. "Is that for the war Chief's bad knee?" Aruka hums in response.
Naru picks up some of the powder and rubs it on the rock. "He's getting worse." Aruka says. "You didn't put orange totsiyaa." I noticed that too, as Aruka grabbed the small pouch and glanced at Naru and me with a furrowing brow. "Who taught you two about orange totsiyaa?" "You." Naru smiles while I chuckle softly, shaking my head. She hums in response, and with a smirk on her face, she puts down the pouch.
Naru sharpens her axe with the blade while I fix up the weapon I used to kill the deer we missed earlier. "Hey Naru?" "Hm?" "When we're done, you want to go out and find some more orange totsiyaa?" "Yeah, sure." She gives me a smile while I smile back at her.
Aruka smiles a little, then she glances at what Naru's doing. "Your father left you that to cut breadroot with." "I almost got a deer with it. We almost had it." "Yeah. Well, we can't eat "almost." My girl, you are good at so many other things; you both are. Why do you guys want to hunt?" "Because you all think that we can't." Naru turns to look at her, and I glance up and look at Naru's mother too. She sighs, and then I hear Taabe coming in with the red-tail. "Ah! In this wind, he brings home a redtail." Taabe chuckles and turns to face us. "Both of you should have listened to my story."
I rolled my eyes. "Didn't think we had time for a nap." Naru smirks, and I chuckle. Taabe scoffs, putting up the redtail. Aruka laughs. "Posa." Taabe speaks in Comanche. Naru continues to sharpen her axe. "It's sharp enough." Aruka says and picks up the pouch, handing it to Naru. "Go get us some ornage totsiyaa you two." She smiles. We both glanced at each other, and we both nodded, slowly getting up and grabbing our stuff. We both glanced at Taabe while he glanced back at us when we exited the tent.
