[Marinette's POV]
Will slumped over after explaining—for what seemed like the millionth time—the stories of the gods and Camp Half-Blood. Marinette stood proudly at her huge whiteboard, having written down countless timelines and family trees during the extensive lecture.
She looked over her notes for a few minutes, trying to commit everything to memory. Finally, she turned back to Nico and Will, only to see that Nico had fallen asleep on her couch.
Will had also noticed and shifted Nico over into a more comfortable position.
"He's used his powers too much today," Will explained. "He must be exhausted. I can answer any of your questions, though."
Marinette nodded in understanding. "I think I understood most of it, but there's one thing you didn't explain. What's the Mist?"
"Ah, right. The Mist is what keeps our world hidden from yours, like a veil that hides all the things people consider unnatural. That's why mortals never realize monsters are lurking around just about everywhere.
"There's a very thick layer of Mist on your and Chat Noir's masks. Nico and I almost didn't notice it because of how strong it was, but, since we're demigods, it isn't that hard for us to look past it. Now that you're aware of it, you can probably look past it too since you're practically clear-sighted," Will explained.
Marinette was shocked. That was why no one ever figured out their identities when it couldn't have been clearer. Well, to be fair, she could never guess who Chat Noir was, but it was blatantly clear to her that she was Ladybug. She had just grown to accept that people were kind of dumb for not noticing.
Lost in thought, she didn't notice Nico muttering in his sleep. She looked over at him, taking note of his distressed face.
Will leaned over his boyfriend and began stroking his hair out of his eyes. "Hey, wake up. You're just dreaming, wake up. Wake up, Neeks," he whispered.
"Nico," he repeated louder this time.
Nico gasped and sat up. He breathed heavily and hung his head between his knees to get his breath back. Will patted his back gently.
"What did you see?" Will asked. The two of them had explained demigod dreams to Marinette, but it was scarier to witness than she thought it would be. Marinette was shocked. Were all their dreams like this?
"I'm not sure...it was dark. Like, really dark...I think people were fighting? If I had to guess, I'd say it was Hawkmoth and some other guy discussing how badly their plan failed today," Nico pondered.
"Wait, he was fighting with a man?" Marinette questioned. Nico nodded. "The only partner Hawkmoth has is Mayura...He's working with someone new..."
"That explains the fighting, then, they must not be used to each other's ways of working," Will said.
"This just keeps getting more and more complicated," Marinette sighed. Suddenly, her phone started ringing. "Hello?" She answered after seeing the contact name.
It was a FaceTime call from Alya.
"Hey, girl! The other girls wanted to go to the movies today. Are you free or do you have more super secret you-know-what stuff to do?" Alya asked energetically.
"What super secret you-know-what stuff?" Marinette heard Alix ask from somewhere behind Alya.
"It wouldn't be super secret if I told you, now, would it?" Alya replied smugly.
"Ooh, I bet she's making something new for Adrien!" Mylene's voice exclaimed. Marinette flushed deeply, trying not to look Will or Nico in the eye. The two boys were trying not to burst out laughing from her horrified expression for the sake of her sanity. Although, it wasn't really working as it only caused her face to become even redder.
