Addie, 19th January
____________________________________________________________________
Addie was a happy girl, almost too happy. She was a fourteen year old girl from Texas who didn't know why she was alive.
Worse, she didn't know what she wanted to be. The only thing she was good at was being happy. It annoyed her a lot.
Every time Addie felt happy, she could feel something churning inside of her. Like some part of her had a different side. A sad side. She felt like she was being controlled, and not in a good way.
Her parents never let her go out. Going on a party was denied, an outing with her friends was answered with a strict, "no," and going out on a date, well now, that was just out of the entire question.
Her parents gave her hand-me-downs and Addie remembered that the only new thing she got, was a fountain pen and 2 pencils.
It wasn't like her parents were poor, they weren't. They just cared about money more than their own child. Her parents spent most of the day out, and sometimes, Addie would sneak out.
After sneaking out one day, she came back quietly. Her parents were home, but Addie wasn't scared, since they were on their phones. Addie had realised something over time. When her parents were on their phones, their eyes were glued to the screen - like literally, glued. So when they were, Addie could walk past them and say, "good day!", and they would be sure not to look up or even mutter anything.
When Addie woke up the next day to her hand-me-down birds chirping, she felt, well, weird? She didn't know how weird felt like, so she just assumed it was weird. Another weird think though, she didn't feel happy. Instead, she felt sad, grumpy and blue. She did not feel like herself at all.
She slowly advanced to the kitchen, feeling weirder with every step she took. She spotted a glass, and filled it up with water. She chugged the water down.
Addie passed out cold on the floor.
