It had been only a year that Sharon had given birth to Sarah, before Thanos had descended upon Earth and declared war on the universe. As soon as she was born the Avengers knew Sarah was different. She had developed an increased growth rate, meaning she grew a lot quicker than normal children. This was the result of Steve's genetics and the serum from the 1940's. Being a child now though, she was sent to a safehouse whilst the Infinity war had occurred, she was safe from harm.
With the help of the Guardians and the Avengers combined, after days of fighting they had defeated Thanos. Helping to clear the battleground of casualties and civilians, a now fully rested Sharon Carter-Rogers had assisted to cover more ground by separating off from the other Avengers (including her husband).
After minutes of investigating alone, Sharon had heard a familiar voice and decided to walk towards it, gun cocked in her hands. As she got closer she found Steve, knelt on the ground and he looked injured. Struck with shock, Sharon dropped her gun and ran towards him. Kneeling by his side she cried, "Steve! Steve what happened?" She placed her hands on his cheeks, trying to keep her eyes on him. Then his head began to rise up, his eyes growing with darkness. She pulled her hands away and stood back as he began to stand and laugh at her.
"Humans are so sentimental. It's pathetic!" he spat. Standing taller and straighter. Sharon stepped back in confusion as she watched the man who looked like her husband materialise into someone she had heard stories about and saw die two days ago in front of her. (or so she thought).
"LOKI!" she said.
(Loki had joined Thanos but after he had been defeated, Loki had decided to trick the others by faking his own death by projecting himself appearing to be hit by enemy fire, making the others and his brother believe he was dead.)
Steve had come racing around the corner behind them, shouting out her name, but it was too late. Out of nowhere, Loki had driven a dagger through her chest, causing Steve to stop suddenly. Loki vanished into thin air, and Steve raced to Sharon, catching her, and gently lowering her to the ground. Wrapping her tightly in his arms, tears began to flow down both of their faces.
"Sharon, stay with me! Come on, keep your eyes open... SHARON!" Steve cried, as he begged her to stay awake.
"I love you..." she replied softly to him, trying desperately to keep her eyes open. Steve smiled and gave a rasped breath through each tear. "Take care of our daughter. Keep her safe" she whispered. Steve kissed her and replied,
"I promise you I will protect her with my life, but you have to keep your eyes open... I love you so much..." She smiled at him reaching her hand out to his face, but it dropped inches away from his cheek. Her eyes closed and her breathing had stopped. Steve took in a deep breath and began to scream, pulling Sharon's lifeless body tightly into his chest as he sobbed.
