A few days after the failed mission.
"We lost 23 shield agents, Romanoff got shot and will be out for a while, Barton got stabbed in his arm so he will not be able to archery for a while, Maximoff is still unconscious but the smoke is out of her lungs, Carter got wood in her leg and will not be able to walk for a while.." Fury sums up all the facts.
"And you." He continues while he points to me. "You have a concussion."
"I am fine." I say emotionless with an annoying white bandage around my head. We have been sitting in this meeting room for 10 minutes trying to understand why the mission went wrong. I have been feeling guilty for these 10 minutes since Fury only can sum up everything that happened.
Before Fury can say more I interrupt him. "The serum wasn't even in the building and they knew we were coming because on my floor they were just waiting in the room for someone to come in."
"I agree. We have a traitor in our team and no matter how hard I want to believe he or she is not in this room.. I can't." Fury informs us. He looks towards Ethan as he finishes his last words.
"You seriously think Ethan is our traitor!?" I snap as I try to stand up but Ethan puts his hand on my thigh, stopping me. I intertwined our hands before I continued.
"Ethan begged me not to go on that mission because he didn't want anything to happen to me. If he wanted us dead, we would have heard sooner from Hydra." I say angry, causing me to get another headache.
"Still, he is the one who gave us the location." Fury says as a matter of fact. I directly want to answer to that but Ethan squeezes my hand, letting me know he can handle it himself.
"I just did my job. You asked us to get the location and that's exactly what I did. I told you from the beginning that we weren't sure if the serum would be in the building and I also told you the risks of going into an unknown place with such a lot of space inside." Ethan defends, causing Fury to nod in agreement.
"Still doesn't explain why you were outside the building before we knew there were bombs." Steve joins the conversation while Bruce, Thor and Tony attentively listen.
"I saw one of the members leave the house via the backdoor with a bag in his hands. I thought he maybe had the serum so I followed him. It turned out to be only weapons in the bag.. When I came back to the house you were carrying Natasha outside and informed me about the bombs." Ethan explains and Steve nods his head like he remembered the scene.
"Okay we scrap Ethan and go to my next suspect." Fury says as he turns towards my direction making eye contact with me. I scoff before a laugh escapes my mouth.
"You can't be fucking serious." I hear Ethan cursing next to me and this time I squeeze his hand to calm him down. "Speak." I demand.
"Don't you think it's weird that you found the bombs at the exact same time our earpieces were turned off?" Fury wonders out loud and I shake my head at his bad proof.
