Andrés was quickly starting to panic in the car, and my wolf was sending me into overdrive. I was trying my best to calm myself down, but Andrés' emotions were pulling me under with him.

"How long is the hospital from here?" I asked Andrés as I tried to keep my breath under control. Andrés doesn't need two people panicking right now.

"It is-- about a four-hour driv-- from here to the hospital," he said in between tears.

"Okay, okay. Put the address on your phone, and I will try to make it there," I quickly tell Andrés.

He nods and puts the address on his phone. In a matter of minutes, I was on the road and driving as fast as I could.

"Don't worry, Andrés. I'll try my best to make it, so you can see your mom," I try to reassure a crying Andrés.

The pizza longed to have been forgotten, and now it was a race to get to the hospital in time.

"Hi, Max," I said as Max answered my phone call.

"Hey, dude! I saw your text--," He said as he started a conversation with me.

"I need a big favor from you," I told him as I cut him off mid-sentence.

"Shoot," said Max.

"I need you to tell mom that I'm staying over at your house for the night. Is that okay?" I asked him as Andrés tried to muffle his voice so Max wouldn't hear him.

"Please make up any excuse at all," I continued.

"Is everything okay?" He asked, sounding concerned for me.

"Yes, don't worry. I just have to go somewhere real quick, and I'll be back tomorrow to tell you about it," I try to reassure him that I'm okay.

"Okay, will do!" He tells me and hangs up.

The rest of the drive to the hospital was spent trying to make sure we made it in one piece while Andrés tried not to cry.

"Let it all out. Omma said that crying makes you feel better, and there is no shame in men crying," I tell Andrés, who stops trying to stop himself from crying.

Finally, we make it to the hospital where Andrés' mother is, and it is super late at night.

"I'll leave you at the entrance, and then I will go park the car. Is that okay with you?" I asked a scared and crying Andrés.

"Yeah," he responded as the car stopped, and he went out. I see him take off running toward the hospital door.

I quickly tried to find a parking space and went to the hospital, hoping to find Andrés. The closer I got to the hospital, the more scared I became.

This is too much to handle for me, but I need to be here for Andrés.

What in the world have I gotten myself into?!

"Can I help you?" Asked the nurse at the front office.

"Hi, I'm looking for my friend Andrés. His mother is in critical condition," I told the nurse.
