I can tell from the time he opened his mouth that he's a player. His blue eyes holds no good intentions as he smiles down at me. But that doesn't stop my heart from fluttering at the sight of his perfect features.
"Might I ask what your name is," Ren questions me.
"Violet. Might I ask what someone like you is doing here," I say.
"What do you mean? I'm exploring my new home," he explains. His new home?!
"Your new home," Amy says incredulously. He chuckles softly and pulls a rose out.
"For you, my lady," he says. I try to hide my disgust. I absolutely hate players. They treat you like your special until they get what they want, then they move on to the next.
"Hey, I bet I can beat the high score of the swing jump," Kenji says, noticing my irritation.
"Oh you're on," I say. I get up and walk over to the to swings, but stop when I hear a deep, throaty growl. Buster-the towns "stray" dog-is standing in front of the swings, his eyes on me. I hold my hands up and back away. It takes one step towards me, then another. I take two steps back before sprinting in the other direction.
"What are you doing?! You're gonna get yourself killed," I hear Jack scream after me. I ignore him and focus on running. The dog barks twice as he chases me. I would continue, but strong arms are wrapped around me and I'm lifted off the ground.
"We got another!! Good job, boy," my capture says. I realize now that the dog was just a look alike. If that was buster, he wouldn't have stopped.
I struggle against his grip as he drags me around the corner of the fence, where a group of guys wait. They're a group of infected gone awol. I've heard about them going around and getting people infected, like them. They don't have to waste their time with me, I think. I can't say that though.
"Isn't she the chick we've been trying to catch," someone asks.
"What should we get her infected with," the guy with the Mohawk asks. The dude with the Afro pulls out a needle filled with black liquid. The guy who initially captured me forces me against the wooden wall. "Hold her arm steady." I start to scream and lash out, trying to break from his hold.
"Damn this chick is strong," I hear my capture say. Suddenly, he lets me go and collapses. I take that chance to sprint away from them.
"Don't let her get away." The order is barked and footsteps echo through the neighborhood. I run pass an alleyway and a bunch of armed men jumps out from it. The group stops and looks at each other. "Let's get out of here."
"Are you alright, miss," one of the officers asks. I nod, watching as the other men chase after the group. "They didn't infect you with anything, did they."
"No. They almost did, but no," I tell him. He nods and walks me back to the park. There, everyone is huddled up, possibly discussing what they're gonna do.
"You sure they didn't get a chance to do anything," he asks. I nod and walk towards my friends. Amy sees me first and sprints over, wrapping her arms around me.
"I was so worried. All I saw was you running and then you're suddenly lifted off the ground. All I could hear were your screams. And then all of a sudden it got quiet. I...I thought...that," she starts, but can't finish because she tears up. I hug her again just as a sob escapes from her.
"I'm ok now," I say, rubbing her back. Behind her, standing next to the swings is a man dressed in an army uniform. When he notices me watching, he begins walking towards me. When his face becomes clearer, I gasp. I release Amy and stumble towards him. When I am sure of his identity, I dash towards him. He meets me halfway and wraps me in a hug. He lifts me off the ground and spins me around.
