A/N Their first 'I love you'! Hope you enjoy! And sorry for the delay...
Alec had finally finished the book Magnus had given him. It had taken him three days. Like suspected, it didn't change any of his adoration or views towards Magnus, and he knew he should talk to the warlock, tell him everything was okay, and more than everything, he wanted to kiss him, hug him, and fall asleep curled around him.
When the day tediously came to a close, Alec sprinted to Brooklyn and knocked, and smiled at Magnus' iconic line: "Who dares disturb the High Warlock of Brooklyn?"
"Alec," the Shadowhunter said through the intercom.
The door opened, and the sight of Magnus leaning against the doorway made Alec's heart skip a beat. Magnus always greeted Alec like that, a small smile teasing his lips, head casually leant against the door frame, and green-brown eyes gleaming.
"To what do I owe the pleasure?" Magnus asked.
"I was hoping we could talk," Alec said.
"Nothing I'd like more," Magnus welcomed Alec into the loft and the pair sat down, Magnus magicking them drinks. "So... What's up?"
"I finished the book," Alec explained, "You've had some adventures. Peru, huh?"
Magnus laughed, "Still don't know what I did."
"Cacti?" Alec sputtered.
"I was very drunk," Magnus argued, "Very, very drunk."
The time when Magnus wanted to become a cactus, the time when Magnus had been banned from Peru. No one cared to know, but now Alec was laughing about it, Magnus regretted not telling Alec of it sooner. To assume Alec was like everyone else... How stupid had Magnus been...
"I'm sorry about the other people in your past, Magnus," Alec eventually said, "I get why you didn't want to open up to me. I'm sorry for rushing you and then being an idiot and going to Camille."
"Hey, it was my fault as well," Magnus said, cupping Alec's cheek. The Shadowhunter leaned into the touch, eyes fluttering shut, "I didn't realise that it made you feel trivial. I just thought... Thought that..."
"I'd want you for your money?" Alec guessed, "For your status and power? After what you've been through, I understand that, Magnus. I wish you would've told me sooner so that I can confirm it's you that I want. I want Magnus. Not the High Warlock."
"You still do?" Magnus seemed frightful of the hope that bloomed in him. Could this really be for him?
"Of course I do, Magnus," Alec sighed, linking his hands with Magnus, "I love you."
This was the first time Alec had said those words out loud, though he'd known for a long while that he did love Magnus. It just never felt appropriate to tell him, but now, when Magnus seemed so nervous, and expectant of Alec's opinions and views, the three words rolled of his tounge effortlessly.
"I love you too, Alexander," Magnus said. Magnus had also known, but he didn't want to scare away Alec, someone who was so new to everything.
"Your past won't change that, Magnus," Alec said, "If you ever need to talk about anything, even if it's about your desires to be a cactus, you can talk to me."
Magnus laughed, a happy sound that hadn't rung throught the loft in the past two months and he looked at Alec's blue eyes, all his insecurities of acceptance vanishing when Alec's eyes reflected all the goodness in Magnus right back at him. "My desires lie elsewhere tonight, though. However, if you ever wanted me to be a cactus, all you have to do is ask."
"I think I'm fine with you just how you are," Alec answered and finally, he kissed the warlock.
Magnus didn't know how much he'd yearned for the kiss until Alec's lips were on his, soft and sweet and so loving as he nipped at the warlock's lower lip, making Magnus let out a satisfied hum as he looped a hand around Alec's neck.
They separated to put their drink glasses on a table before Magnus reached out and tugged Alec forwards, whispering, "My Alec. I'm so sorry. I love you."
"It's okay, Magnus," Alec whispered back, "It's okay. I promise."
Magnus nodded and placed his cheek on Alec's shoulder, surprising the Shadowhunter. Nevertheless, Alec hugged the warlock to him tightly, and kissed his head, before he too curled his head into Magnus' neck, breathing in the scent of sandalwood.
"Are you staying tonight?" Magnus asked, hopeful.
Alec mumbled about what sounded like a 'yeah' into Magnus' neck, not wanting to move himself.
"I'm glad," Magnus mumbled back, "Do you want to watch a movie?"
"Sure."
So they moved to the sofa, and Magnus flicked a movie on and summoned a blanket. "Come here," he muttered to the Shadowhunter, who obliged and placed his head on the warlock's chest, the fireworks finally going off in his head when he managed to hear Magnus' heartbeat. Magnus placed a kiss on Alec's temple.
The movie played, but Alec barely cared. The lack of sleep for the past two months caught up with him and now, in the comfort of Magnus' arms, he dozed off, snuffling and snoring lightly.
Magnus realised Alec was alseep only halfway through the movie but he didn't want to move, Alec's wait above him a comfort he didn't know he needed, but now that he had it, he didn't want it to go.
When the movie finally finished, Magnus tried to untangle himself from Alec's now-relaxed muscles and limbs but was met with protests.
"Stay," Alec said sleepily, "I want you here. Please."
And Magnus' heart was literally jumping for all he knew. Alec had never said stuff like that to him, and he'd thought it was because Alec didn't want to. But now, his whole being groggy with sleep, Magnus realised it may because Alec felt self-consious saying those words, and it was easier when his mind was only partly in the moment.
"Alright," Magnus mumbled, lying down and shifting Alec's weight onto him in a more comfortable angle, "Anything you want, darling."
"Anything?" Alec asked, still half-asleep.
"Absolutely anything," Magnus confirmed.
"Just you," Alec then said and Magnus was surprised in the best way possible.
"You already have me, Alexander," Magnus whispered.
"That's all I need then," Alec muttered and appeared to have fallen asleep again. Magnus smiled.
"Good night, Alec," Magnus whispered anyway, "I love you."
Magnus thought Alec was asleep, but apparently he had enough energy to croak out a 'Love you too' before sleep dragged him under.
And Magnus also fell asleep quickly, his mind, heart and body a lot more relaxed with Alec curled next to him. And just like that, they fell asleep, hearts beating and souls singing together.
