"So, here it is, but I really have to go now. I'm a very busy fairy," River said before wrapping her arms around both of them in a hug. "Love you guys, byyyye!" she chirped, before flying away back down the path.

"Wow, she sure is... umm, interesting," Lily said, as Alex let out a laugh, completely agreeing with her statement. He could definitely say he'd never met anyone like River before. He looked up at the treehouse. It was a pretty small place for a great and powerful warlock to live, but he didn't want to judge.
On the tree trunk, there was a door.

He softly knocked on it, but no one came. He looked over at Lily, who just shrugged at him. He knocked again, a little harder. They heard a yell from inside.
"What is it? What do you want?" the very loud voice yelled, frustrated. They were not expecting this kind of greeting.
"Um, we need help from the warlock that lives here!" Alex yelled back, putting his ear up to the door, listening.
"Grr, why do people always want MY help?" a muffled voice grumbled from within.

Alex looked over at Lily. It seemed the warlock wasn't interested in helping them; they might have to go and find someone else's help.
"Please, Warlock Sir, I need your help! Only the strongest, most powerful magic can help me," Lily pleaded, looking up at the tree.
For a moment, they didn't hear anything else inside.

They were about to lose hope and just leave to look for help elsewhere. Then, the door opened, revealing a little boy with light gray skin, darker gray freckles sprinkled across his cheeks like charcoal dust, and hair as white and fine as spun moonlight. He had what looked like a Nintendo Switch in his hands - how did he get that here? Lily had no clue.
"Are you the powerful warlock's son? We need you to go get your dad for us, okay?" Alex asked, looking down at the little boy.

The little boy let out a snort, looking between them with an air of bored amusement. "Pretty boy, I am the powerful warlock! Now, can we make this quick? As you can see, I'm kinda busy," he said, holding up the Switch with a flick of his wrist.
Alex crossed his arms, glaring down at the little boy. "Listen, kid, we aren't playing around here."
The boy shrugged, about to go back inside.

Lily quickly grabbed onto his blue shirt. "Please, my friend is sorry. If you can help me... I'd appreciate that very much," she said before letting go of him. He might look young, but looks aren't always what they seem.
"Are you serious, Lily? He's like, eight! There's no way!" Alex exclaimed, disbelieving.
The boy pointed his finger at Alex, a spark of irritation flashing in his hazel eyes. "Listen here, Ken, I'm actually 1,236 years old!"

Lily ran her hands through her hair as Alex got in the little boy's face. "My name's Alexander! You lit-"
Lily's eyes widened. "I don't give a fuck, Ken!" the boy retorted, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

She stepped in between them, putting her hands up. "Listen, we are sorry for just coming here like this, but can you please help me? My life is on the line." She looked into the little boy's hazel eyes, her voice pleading.

He let out a sigh, the corners of his lips twitching upwards in a smirk. "Fine, honey, I'll try for you. Follow me." He turned on his heel with a dramatic flourish and strutted inside. Lily and Alex followed behind him, closing the door as they climbed up the stairs.
They reached the treehouse portion. It was a lot bigger inside than it looked from the outside.

It was a wide-open area with a clean kitchen that sparkled with unseen magic on one side and a living room overflowing with strange and fascinating artifacts on the other. He led them into a room with a big black cauldron bubbling ominously in the middle, a thick spell book bound in what looked like dragon hide sitting beside it on a table, and different potions and chemicals in glass bottles that shimmered with an inner light lining the walls.

The boy set the Switch down on a wooden table with a sigh of exaggerated weariness before turning to face them, his small frame radiating an unexpected power. "Okay, so first of all, my name is Maximus. You can call me Max if you want. I don't really care." He walked over to the cauldron, bending down beside it, and snapped his fingers with a sharp crack, lighting a fire underneath it. The flames roared to life, casting dancing shadows on his face.

"I need some kind of protection spell or something. I have a demon after me, I think," Lily said softly, a shiver running down her spine. Alex rubbed her back reassuringly.
"Well, you can stay here, and I can protect you, honey," Max said, winking at Lily with a playful smirk.
Lily just laughed nervously. Alex glared daggers at Max. Who did this little shit think he was, flirting with Lily like this? "That's a nice offer, but a spell would be just fine," Alex said, his voice tight with barely suppressed anger.

Max just grinned, clearly enjoying the tension, as he made his way over to his shelves, his eyes scanning the colorful array of ingredients with a practiced eye. He picked up a few bottles and tools, setting them on the table beside the cauldron with a series of small clinks and thuds. "Umm, okay, let's do this, bitches!" He yelled before cracking his fingers again, the sound echoing in the room.

He opened a green bottle filled with a light green liquid that swirled like liquid emeralds, pouring it in with a dramatic flourish. "Luck of a leprechaun," he said with a theatrical bow. Then he picked up a white, holographic horn that shimmered with all the colors of the rainbow and a grater. "Grated unicorn horn," he announced, his voice dripping with mock seriousness, grating it into the bubbling pot. The liquid hissed and spat, changing colors from green to bright gold.

"I'm going to need some hair, beautiful. Just a few pieces should do," Max said, holding out a knife with a delicate, almost dainty, gesture.
Alex watched, his jaw tight, as Lily leaned over the pot, her black hair cascading down her back. She carefully cut off a few strands straight into the pot before setting the knife back on the table.

"Um, almost done. One more thing." He picked up the knife again and handed it to Alex with a challenging look in his hazel eyes. Alex raised an eyebrow, looking at the knife before reluctantly taking it "Blood from an angel," the little warlock said, looking quite pleased with himself. "Yeah right, you're just trying to fuck with me," Alex said, licking his lips, his voice a low growl.

Max looked at him, shrugging his shoulders with an innocent expression that didn't fool anyone. "You'll never know, Ken. Now, add the blood."
Alex was reluctant about just giving up his blood. He glanced over at Lily, his eyes softening as he took in her worried expression. He decided it was worth it to protect her. He held his palm up, the skin glowing faintly with an inner light. He dragged the sharp blade across it, the cut instantly beading with crimson.

Blood started to seep out, a stark contrast to his glowing skin. Before it could heal, he walked over, his movements deliberate and controlled, holding his hand over the pot, his fist clenched tight. A few drops of blood dripped down into the golden liquid with a sizzling sound. He walked back over and stood beside Lily. She picked up his bloody hand, her fingers tracing the now-healed line across his palm... it was already healed over.

"Perfect! That should do it. Now, if you wouldn't have just popped up at my house, I would have probably been able to get the supplies I would have needed to put the protection spell on her. But since you just showed up and I don't have the materials here, this will have to do." Max picked up a small silver emerald necklace off the table, the emerald pulsing with a faint, green light, and dropped it into the cauldron with a plunk. He picked up a wooden stick, its surface carved with ancient runes, and started stirring the pot.

The liquid inside glowed slightly, swirling with colors that seemed to shift and change with every movement. He scooped out the necklace, handing it over to Lily with a flourish. She felt a slight heat as it landed in her hand, the emerald warm against her skin.
"As long as you wear this, demons won't be able to touch you."

(Mia note: Do you guy think the necklace will work also FYI Ken is Barbie's perfect boyfriend )
