"I mean, I'm not fully human, but it's also obvious to me that you do get some type of symptoms from being around me—at least you did last time. When we were in the balloon together, don't think I didn't notice that something was off about you," Lily said, pointing a finger at him.

He didn't want to worry her that day, didn't want her to see his pain, but it was definitely there. "I don't know, Lily. I've never been in this type of relationship before," Alex confessed, as he spoke, he took off his hat, running his fingers through his blonde locks.

Lily's heart dropped. She felt a sharp pang of hurt and upset. She thought they shared the same feelings for each other, but apparently, she was wrong. She hopped off the hood of the car, marching to the driver's side door, and swung it open. Alex put his hat back on, following her. "What are you doing? Where are you going?" she ignored him, climbing into the car, trying to slam the door shut, but he had his hand on it, keeping it from closing. "I'm going away from you! And you can go ahead and stop being my angel now. I was living fine before you, and I'm damn sure I'll be fine after you, so let go of the damn door!" she yelled, pulling harder on the door. He wasn't even struggling to keep it open; he was much stronger than her.

"Lily, don't you think you're overreacting?" he asked, his voice calm.
She looked at him in disbelief. Was he joking right now? He was the one who asked her on a date. He was the one who was always holding her in his arms. But now that she wanted to take the next logical step, he didn't want to? And she was blowing it out of proportion?! It was all just so frustrating.

"Fine. Have it your way," she retorted, scrambling out of the car. She pushed past him, marching determinedly down the hill "Lily! Lily, stop! Where are you going?" he questioned, closing her car door and following her down the hill.
With her back still facing him, she yelled, "I'm walking home! What does it look like?!" Her sarcastic tone cut through the night air. He stopped walking for a second, just watching as she made her way down the hill, her black hair swaying from side to side in the light wind.

She was almost at the road at the end of the hill "Okay, Lily, you know what? I do like you!" he yelled, his voice carrying clearly across the distance. She stopped dead in her tracks, turning to see him still a little ways up the hill. He let out a breath, a faint smile playing on his lips. "I don't know what the new consequences will be for being around you, but honestly, I'm willing to face them as long as I get to see you every day." she smiled, kicking a small stone by her feet.

It was true; he honestly had no idea what this meant for them, but what he did know was that he couldn't stay away from her, and he wanted to be with her.
"Be my girlfriend, Lily. I promise to always try my best to look after and protect you." she smiled, a pure, joyous expression, and ran back up the hill into his arms. He laughed, twirling her around.

She laughed softly as he finally let her back on her feet, still holding her close. "Of course I will, Alex! And thank God you stopped me before I got to the road. I had no idea where I was going!"
Alexander let out a soft laugh, still holding her closely to his chest. So, they were a couple now, but there were still so many unanswered questions. Lily guessed they would have to take it one step at a time.

Lily pulled away slightly, reaching her hand up. She gently pulled his hat off, then placed the white hat on her own head backward. "So, now that you're my boyfriend, can you do something for me?" she asked. Grinning, he brought one of her hands to his lips, giving it a soft kiss. "And that would be?"
She put her hands on the sides of his cheeks, pulling his face a little closer. "Come meet my friends."
