Here Lily sat across from her so-called father, and only one thought burned in her mind. "What do you really want from me, Alistair?" she demanded, her voice betraying no fear, only a desperate need for answers.
He tilted his head slightly to the side, a slow, charming smile spreading across his lips. "No respect for your own father, huh?" Lily's hands clenched in her lap. She didn't even know the guy, and he expected her to show him respect? That wasn't about to happen.

"Okay, that's fine. I understand. You probably want to know why I went through all this to get you here," he conceded, his tone surprisingly amicable. She simply nodded her head. Why would he honestly be going through all this for someone he didn't even know? It made no sense.
"Well, when me and your mother found out she was pregnant with you, we were both excited," he began, his voice softening, a wistful quality entering his tone. "I remember telling her how excited I was to teach you about your powers, when and if you had any at all... I couldn't wait to show you all the magic of the world. But most of all, I was ready to marry your mother. Our family could rule over the underworld together." His voice faded off softly as he looked into the distance, as if lost in a cherished, bittersweet memory.

His eyes turned back to her, the warmth replaced by a hard glint. "The next thing I know, your mom runs off, leaving a note behind simply saying not to go looking for her. She claimed she didn't want this kind of world for our daughter." He let out a sarcastic, brittle laugh, devoid of humor. Lily kept her mouth closed, hanging on to every word, a cold suspicion forming in her gut. "Others always told me she could have done better than me... so when she left, I decided to follow her wishes and not go looking for her, even though it killed me inside."

His expression hardened. "Years later, news got around that Jesus decided to finally forgive your mother for getting pregnant by a demon and gave you a guardian angel. I was furious that he dared to not give you one in the first place-he was just a jealous bastard. At first, I just wanted to see you. I'd never been able to see you; you're all grown up now. But then..." His eyes traced her facial features, as if seeing them for the first time, yet recognizing something profound. A small smile spread across his lips. "You look just like your mother." His eyes then landed on the demonic mark on her neck.

"But then I learned about your powers. And I know your mother probably didn't tell you anything, and you probably had no idea what was going on." He leaned forward, his voice a conspiratorial whisper. "I had to get you here. I'll teach you to control your powers, and we'll rule the underworld together."
He looked so genuinely excited, which made Lily raise a brow. Of course, she wasn't going to stay here with him. Was he crazy? She had a strong feeling his whole overly-nice demeanor was just an act, and she wasn't about to fall for that. She let out a sigh, shaking her head before standing up.

"I can't stay here," she declared, her voice firm. "I have a whole world on Earth, a whole different life. I'm not giving that all up." She made her way to the door, placing her hand on the cold, metal handle. He followed, also standing, his arms crossing over his chest as he scowled at her. "And where will you go, huh? You don't know how to use your powers, which means you don't know how to make a portal to leave." He gestured vaguely at the imposing room around them. "You don't even know about the sick, dangerous creatures that live here. Go ahead, step outside by yourself. There may be a murderer, a cannibal, or maybe a psychopath waiting to greet you." He paused, a cruel smile playing on his lips. "Orrr, you can follow me to my limo, and we can go to my penthouse and start your training. It's completely your choice." He put his hands into his pockets, watching her reaction, every calculated muscle of his face still.

Lily slowly let go of the door handle, her shoulders slumping in reluctant defeat.
"That's what I thought. A very wise choice, daughter," he said, the triumph barely veiled in his tone. He walked past her, opening the door and heading towards his waiting limo. Lily quickly followed behind him, knowing she had no other option. As they stepped outside, this was her first time seeing Hell in all its dubious glory. It appeared as a bleak, sprawling city, unlike anything on Earth.

A thick, acrid smoke coated the air, stinging her nostrils, and strange, monstrous creatures walked past her in a haste, their forms indistinct in the perpetual gloom. She let out a harsh cough, her eyes starting to burn. Her father pulled her quickly into his waiting limo, closing the door behind them, sealing them away from the toxic air "The air isn't safe to breathe long here," he explained, his gaze distant, "especially for someone who's not used to it." Her eyes watered as she looked out the window, watching the distorted landscape of Hell pass by, waiting to get to God knows where.
