"Hello, Mom," Lily said with a smile, stepping through the doorway. Her mom pulled her into a big hug, rocking them side to side. "There's my little girl! Come on inside, dear, I'll make us some hot cocoa." it had been a few days since the events at her house. Lily was finally able to take a week off work to recuperate and come see her mom.

She had a lot of questions floating around in her brain, and as much as she wished she could bluntly ask her mom, she knew her mom wouldn't take it well. So, she was going to try and be as gentle as possible when asking all the things on her mind.

Walking inside the small house, everything looked exactly the same as when she was growing up. Pictures of her and them together lined the wall, along with photos of friends and family members from her mom's side. But an older man was conspicuously missing from the photos, and that left a bitter taste in Lily's mouth. She'd never known her father. Her mom had told her growing up that he was a bad man, so she'd left with Lily before she was born to protect them both.

Lily took a seat on the couch, glancing at the TV. It seemed her mom was watching Judge Judy before answering the door. Her mom walked into the kitchen, fluffy black curls bouncing with each step. As she began making their hot chocolate, she continued their conversation.
"So, how have you been out there in the big city? What do I owe this unexpected visit?" her mom asked as she started pouring the brown chocolate powder into each cup of hot milk.

Lily nervously played with her thumbs, glancing over at her mom. "Umm, same old, same old," she said quietly, which was completely far from the truth. "I got a new job at the planetarium like I always wanted, and I bought Momo a new blue light collar." her mom walked back into the living room, handing her a Christmas mug Lily had made when she was six years old, now filled with hot chocolate.

She sat in the spot beside her. "Ah, I see. That's great, dear. How is Momo? Is he keeping a good eye on you out there?" she asked before taking a sip of her hot chocolate. Lily watched her intensely. Did her mom really not know about Momo being able to grow nine feet tall? Was her mom also as oblivious about the magical world as she was, or was she lying to her all these years?

Her mom looked up from her cup, noticing Lily staring, and raised an eyebrow. "Um, is everything okay, dear?"
Lily let out a shaky breath. It was now or never. She had to find out the truth. "Mom, I need to ask you a few things, because to be honest, the last few months of my life have been anything but normal." Lily set her mug on the glass coffee table beside her.

Her mom looked at her, intrigued. What could have shaken up her daughter this much? "Mom, did you know Momo could grow nine feet tall? Did you know he was a magical creature when you gave him to me?" Lily asked hesitantly. If her mom didn't know about the magic community, she would probably be laughing at her right now, thinking Lily was joking... but she wasn't laughing.

Her cup of hot chocolate dropped from her hand, shattering on the wood floor, making Lily jump back in her seat. Her mom muttered a sharp curse word before standing up, speed walking into the kitchen to grab a towel, and then rushing back into the living room, hastily trying to clean up the mess. Lily just sat, watching her mom act hysterical.

"Mom, answer the question! And what else have you been hiding from me all these years?" she asked, her voice cold and steady, despite the anger simmering inside her. She wasn't about to yell, but she wanted the truth for once.
Her mom stood back up, walking into the kitchen and throwing the wet towel into the sink. Lily stood and followed her.

Her mom leaned her hands on the counter, head hung low, looking into the sink. "Yes, I knew," she whispered. Lily barely heard her soft voice, but... she did. Lily was feeling so many emotions that she started to pace back and forth. Sadness, anger, rage, confusion, and frustration filled her whole chest. She tried to breathe, to find the calm she desperately needed, but it was like trying to hold back a tsunami.

This was too much. The last few months had thrown her into a world she never knew existed, and now this? It was simply too much for one person to handle. "Mom, what the hell? How could you lie to me my whole life like this?"
Her mom turned around, putting her hands on Lily's shoulders, looking at her with watery eyes. "I'm so sorry, Lily. I only did it to protect you. I never meant to hurt you, please believe me."
Lily pushed her mom's hands away, throwing her own hands up in the air in frustration.

"I knew one day he would come for you. But I couldn't protect and look after you your whole life, so I got Momo for you from a magical salesman to look after you." Lily looked into her mom's watery eyes. Tears rolled freely down her mother's cheeks. "Who, Mom... who are you trying to protect me from? Who is trying to get me?" her mom opened her mouth, then quickly closed it, shaking her head. She started to walk away.

Lily grabbed her arm, making her stay, but her mom still didn't face her.
"Fucking who, Mom?!?" she yelled, her voice breaking. Her mom turned her head, finally facing her daughter again, her eyes filled with dread. "Your father... Alistair... Satan's right hand... King of the Underworld."
