Epilogue: An obvious but overlooked thing (Vol. 1)

 Ever since we took off Deus' mask, an uneasy feeling had been forming inside me. Master Shellin told me that I could remember names more than faces and I hated how I could faintly recall that I saw him somewhere.

"In the end, we didn't figure out his trick, gozaru", Iroha sighed.

"We failed our mission", Sakamata said.

"Koyo wonders how Deus could do it. From the data Koyo got using the room, Deus was not using his mana. That is the only clue on his trick for getting out of anti-magic barriers", Koyori frowned.

"What do you think, Detective Sakasaki?" Laplus looked at me.

She was eating another strawberry sponge cake. The crumbs near her mouth made me think that she was just another child instead of the leader who helped me make the right choice.

"I have a gut feeling that there's something I missed", I said.

"So you saw something but you didn't look at it?" she asked.

"... Yeah. There's something but I can't piece it together..."

Where did I see Deus' face before?

While I was deep in my thoughts, the door opened and Lui entered the room.

"We have identified Deus", she said.

"Who is he, gozaru?" Iroha asked.

"His name is Ryan Sakamoto, a-"

"-relative of Edward Sakamoto, a sergeant of the Yamato Gun Corps", I muttered.

I immediately got up and sprinted away from holoX. If my memory was right, I found a lead on the mystery. And everything was far more dangerous than I thought!

After unlocking the doors of the Burgundy Detective Agency, I headed straight towards Master Shellin's computer and opened my investigation files. It should be there.

Name: Ryan Sakamoto

Occupation: Mercenary

I found the file I made about him and like I remembered, he was the relative of someone from the Yamato Gun Corps.

Status: MIA (last reported sighting: Deus 12)

"What's going on?" I heard Sakamata's voice behind me.

"Do you want to know why I made a file about Ryan Sakamoto?" I asked her.

She looked at me as I stood up while adjusting my coat. I was absolutely confident that I found a lead and all I had to do now was do what I normally do.

"Ryan is one of Mirazushi Corporation's victims for their experiments", I said.

Mirazushi Corporation already had a change in management now that the Big Boss died. Lui still kept watch over them but nothing significant had been happening ever since holoX put a stop on their illegal activities.

If Deus got something from those experiments, then it would explain how he could do things that normal creatures couldn't. And if he got one, then the other victims who weren't confirmed to be dead would have similar things.

"This isn't over yet", I muttered.

However, there was only one thing I could do for now.

It's time to investigate!
