I found myself on my feet, with an extremely unpleasant feeling. An obnoxious sound canceled all the other sounds. My eardrums felt great danger. Just a moment ago I was sleeping peacefully and now I was fighting pain in my head. I wish it stops. About right now!
The smokescreen faded but I was still in hiding, behind the long, embroidered red curtains. It'd be best to wait for the sound to stop until I make my next move. I hope I won't have to wait long. Somebody will surely do something about it.
I focused on the embroidery. A floral patter was dominant. Roses, lilies and a flower I couldn't recognize. Maybe it was endemic to this kingdom. The person who did it, didn't put much effort because there were misses in stitches, but it was still nice to see it.
My head felt like it was getting numb from the annoying sound. The bad feeling wouldn't go away even when I redirected my thought elsewhere. I touched my ears but it had no effect.
By the spirits! The sound still continued. When will it stop? The only positive thing in this situation was that I was still hearing it meaning that my eardrums were probably still intact.
I looked around but I couldn't spot anyone, not even the fire spirit. Was everyone waiting somewhere for the sound to stop? There wasn't anyone outside the window either.
Was it just a few endless seconds? Or a few minutes? I had no idea how much time passed by. It was still sunny outside so I guess I didn't sleep long. I was disappointed that the spirit wasn't here when I woke up but it probably had some business to attend to and will be back soon. It would be too conceited to put myself as one of the spirit's priorities. Traveling with such an important existence for my world was one of the greatest honors, but it was also something I couldn't brag about because the spirit liked to be hidden from sight.
The sound stopped but my ears were still hurting. There was no point in staying here anymore. I grabbed the curtain but stopped my hand when I heard quick footsteps drawing closer. My spells surely lost effect so I'll keep hiding until they are far away to enchant myself again.
"Calytrix!!!" I could hear female voices shouting "The evil witch tried to assassinate the barrel price!"
Terrible! Rheya's girls wanted to pin all the blame on me. I just happened to be in a wrong place at a wrong time.
"That explosion right now? It was that Calytrix, right?" a high pitched voice said.
"She's the only one who could have done it? The barrel princes allies have all been eliminated," a girly voice answered.
If their words were trustworthy it would seem that the explosion wasn't their cause nor the barrel prince's. That was very curious. Was a third party involved here too? It wasn't the fire spirit, I'd notice it. I need to find the spirit and get out of here.
After a few minutes passed and I couldn't sense anyone presence nearby I got out of hiding and cast the invisibility spell on me. I didn't know which direction to go because no matter how hard I tried I couldn't sense the fire spirit. It was like it disappeared. I highly doubt it would leave me without saying goodbye. Something must have happened to it. If the spirit is in trouble I need to help. It was my duty as the resident of this world and as the spirit's friend.
I chose to go left thinking it'd be best to avoid the direction of Rheya's spies which led me in front of a single door. Inside of it were closed wooden boxes filled with dust and spiderweb. I sneezed when I opened it. The spiders gathered near the entrance probably surprised to see a human after being alone so long in such an abandoned room. Most of them were little house spiders but a few of them wire big and thick with strange markings on them. I do remember that there are various kinds of spiders but the big ones made me feel uneasy. Even when I tried to study about them they seemed creepy so I quickly flipped the book pages without reading any details. I quickly closed the door because I didn't want to get acquainted with them.
