Ares POV Cont. ******
I reached for her hand, she let me hold her tiny hand in mine. I looked into her eyes and said, "Vida, my beautiful mate, will you please do me the honor of going on a date with me?" as I was pleading with my eyes for her to say yes.
Vida's POV ******
"Why?"
"Wha um What?" Ares stutters looking at me in confusion. He was not expecting me to say that I guess.
"He doesn't know us." said Red softly with a hint of pain that she quickly pushed away.
By the bewildered expression on his face, he was not prepared for that question. A long pause later Ares says, "To spend time with my mate." like that was all the reason he needed.
I rolled my eyes at his obvious stupidity.
An uncomfortable awkwardness was felt throughout the room as our silence continued loner an longer.
I decide to play nice and break the silence, "Um that's okay Ares. You don't have to; you can go prepare for whatever is coming. I'm sure you are very busy with Alpha duties." I say with a smile hoping he will get up and walk away.
"I um, I aa, I ah." muttered Ares as he finally stood back up. He clears his throat clearly looking very uncomfortable. " Please give me a chance Vida." his cold eyes never giving away any emotion but his blank stare clearly meaning he is waiting for my answer.
Beau being protective of me walks to my feet and sits down. He licks my fingers letting me know he is there to support me obviously feeling my stress increase.
I take a deep breath and turn my back to him, "Ares, I have given you many chances in the months that I have been here. I'm out of chances to give. If the werewolf population didn't depend on us, I would have left months ago. This pack is not my home, I doubt it would ever be. I will fight with you to defeat our enemies. If I live through the battle I'm going home where I belong." and I walked away not looking back with Beau on my heels.
A little over a week later in the early morning hour Nia, Chief, Beau and I were snuggled together sleeping peacefully. Nia and Chief raise their heads suddenly awaking me. I listen for what could have disturbed them and hear faint snarls and a yelp. I quickly throw back the covers and make a mad dash for whatever is happening.
I did not stop and think of why I was going, or what I was going to do when I got there. I was awoken suddenly and reacted. All I could think about was wolves were in trouble and I had to help. It was like a force to protect came from inside me and I was going to listen.
I exit the house from the back door and stop to listen for hints for where to go. I hear snarls to my right. I take off running across the yard into the forest with my bare feet. I use a fallen tree trunk to push myself off of it and leap into the air. I shift seamlessly into Red in the air, landing in midstride. I kick into a faster speed continuing my running in the direction of the wolves.
As I get closer, I hear whimpers and I see in the distance a dark grey fog. The whimpering and wolf screams echo that the pain they are in is increasing. I cringe at the thought. The grey fog dissipates quickly clearing my vision as I approach cautiously.
I see red eyes peering at me from all directions. "Rogues!" snarls Red.
"We do this together." I say to Red.
"As one." she answers.
Before me were 7 to 10 rogues, not sure how many I didn't have time to count. They were all foaming at the mouth like they were rabid snarling and growling, as they tried to circle around me for the kill. I leap over the closest wolf in front of me diving for the throat of the one behind them. To the one least expecting my attack. I rip through the brown fur and flesh with ease. My paws landing with a spin as I spit out remanence of flesh and fur looking for who's next.
