Ch.2: Learning about Lisa

Jennie opened her bedroom door and tossed her backpack onto the bed, dropping her body onto it. She carefully removed the blouse Lisa had given her and impulsively hugged it against her chest, inhaling the hazel-eyed girl's natural scent that wafted from her fabric.

She sighed heavily, tossing her blouse aside and taking her notebook out of her backpack. Jennie drummed her fingers on her keyboard as she waited for the device to turn on.

"Okay, Jennie. Let's get ready." She muttered to herself, hitting the enter key.

Let's learn a little bit about Lisa

Autism is a developmental disorder that usually appears in the first three years of life and compromises communication skills and social interaction.

Jennie swallowed hard, rolling her eyes down the page.

Some children with autism appear normal before the age of one or two, but then suddenly "regress" and lose language or social skills they previously acquired. This type of autism is called regressive autism.

Common behaviors in autism may include:

They cannot initiate or maintain a social conversation.

•Communicate with gesture instead of words.

•Develops language slowly or not at all.

• Does not adjust vision to look at objects that other people are looking at.

• They don't refer to themselves correctly.

Jennie sighed, at that moment she managed, somehow, to understand every gesture of Lisa in the short time they had spent together.

• They may find normal noises painful and cover their ears with their hands.

Jennie smacked her own forehead, mentally cursing herself countless times. She had drawn Lisa's attention very loudly, the hazel-eyed girl almost panicked and Jennie hadn't understood why. Well until now.

• She seems to have an increase or decrease in response to pain.

• Outbursts of intense anger.

• Impulsivity.

• Assault.

• Self mutilation.

• Lack of eye contact.

• Irritability.

• Repetitive movements.

• Repetition of meaningless words, meaningless repetitions of words and repetitions of words or gestures.

Jennie bit her lip, straightening her position in bed. If Lisa presents more than half of that behavior, she was really terrified.

However, she would accept employment. She was desperately needing money, so she could endure. Well, she at least expected yes.

"Jendeukie, you better wake up if you still want to attend classes" Jennie almost falls out of bed when she is awakened by her mother's voice.

"Dammit." She muttered irritably as she stood up and felt absurd pain as she stretched her muscles.

Jennie ran into her bathroom to take a quick, icy shower. She hated cold water with all her might. After doing her personal hygiene, she put on her underwear, some random skynni pants, and without time to look for a shirt, she put on Lisa's blouse that she had left on the bed. She just ran her hands through her hair in order to make it less messy and put on her typical all-star one.
