"Nini" a grunt from the hazel-eyed girl broke the silence that settled on the balcony.
Jennie sighed for the thousandth time and stopped writing in her notebook, turning her attention back to the hazel-eyed girl. It was impossible to concentrate on the exercises once she was on Lisa's lap.
"What was it?"
Lisa smiled and held the Korean girl's wrist, intertwining their fingers and admiring how well they fit together. Jennie bit her lip, looking at her laptop.
Grade of the month at school or Lisa?
"Princess Lisa," the hazel-eyed girl whispered, pressing a kiss to the back of Jennie's hand.
Who needs notes of the month, right?
Jennie took a deep breath and rested her head on the older one's shoulder, closing her eyes and almost falling asleep there. Lisa could calm her like no one else.
"When will you show me dad?" Lisa asked softly.
Jennie swallowed hard and straightened her posture, looking up at the cloudless, starry sky.
"Lili" Jennie licked her lips before continuing, "You have to stay calm so I can explain, okay?" She lightly caressed Lisa's cheeks, her heart clenching at the girl's anxious expression.
"Because?" Lisa asked, "Isn't dad coming back?"
"Lili, listen..."
"M-mom lied?" Lisa interrupted the Korean, averting her gaze.
Jennie captured Lisa's face, placing a hand on each cheek and stroking lightly with her thumb, so she calmed down and could bear the eye contact.
"He's on a big mission now."
"That mission?" Lisa asked, shaking her head blankly.
Jennie bit her lip, having no explanation in mind for telling the girl that her father died years ago. Gods, it was more difficult than she had imagined.
"The mission to take care of you, love," Jennie offered a small smile to the older.
"But..." Lisa's brow furrowed in confusion, "Je-Jennie already does that."
"Take care of you when I'm not around," the brown-eyed one completed.
"Mom takes care of me too," Lisa stated, nodding once, "But Lisa doesn't s-like the way she takes care of her very much."
"And why not?"
The hazel-eyed girl paused briefly, her gaze wandering aimlessly around the room, "Because it makes Lisa feel... a-abnormal."
Jennie wanted to smile at the new word, but the sentence hit her painfully in the chest.
"You are not abnormal"
Lisa lowered her head and released Jennie's hand, pulling her knees up to her chest, resting her arms on them, and hiding her face there.
"Lisa misses him," the hazel-eyed girl's voice came out slightly muffled.
Jennie sighed, narrowing her eyes at the sky.
"Lili" Jennie's hands gently caressed the older one's back, "Love, can you look at me?"
Slowly the short-haired girl looked up, her bright eyes looking at the younger one curiously.
"I-can I."
A small smile tugged at the corner of Jennie's lips as she pulled Lisa closer and linked their hands together.
"Look for the brightest little star in the sky."
