On the next day, Celine felt as if she was reborn. Her crush talked to her, drove her home, and most important part asked her out... in a way.
With a big smile on her face, she made herself pretty today just for him, due to the fact she accidentally woke up one hour too early because of her excitement. She decided to make a little present for Michael which should serve as a lucky charm for this upcoming match.
So, she printed out some pictures of his team which were on their school website, and made a night light of it with the help of an empty and transparent can.The school day to the lunch break passed slowly and the time finally came to go to the play field. Unfortunately, she hasn't seen Michael yet to give him this little thank you for driving her home yesterday. This she would use as an explanation for this present because the lucky charm thing is seen as something girlfriends would do but they haven't reached the stage.
Celine knew almost nothing of basketball simply because she was never interested in it so she played along every time the others who sit next to her started cheering up his team. Often, she caught the words 'touchdown' which hyped the fans pretty much up when it was made by Michael's team.
To a point, she stopped caring for the game because she doesn't understand what was going on anyway.
When the game was over the people on their banks started screaming and stood up so Celine wasn't able to see anything except for the backs of the people in front of her. It took 10 minutes until the people left their seats to go their ways. Celine still sat on her seat not knowing what to do next. Eventually, she stood up and went to her bus stop with her self-made night light still in possession.
Celine hasn't given up, today she still has some hours left and maybe she can find Michael in one of the hallways. She has never seen him there before but Celine knows where and when his last period ends.
If he's not there, she will give it to him on the upcoming Monday.
Waiting in his part of the hallway, each of his classmates went out, but Michael was nowhere to be seen. She's confused because normally he never skips classes as far as she knows but there's a possibility that an emergency happened right after the game.
On Monday at lunch, Michael wasn't there either.
"Girl, are you even listening to me?" asks Alina probably the second time but Celine is too lost in thought to acknowledge.
"Huh, sorry I didn't catch that. What were you asking again?"
"Your birthday. You'll be 18 on the 18th. Which is in 2 days. Do you have any special present wishes?"
Celine can only think of one thing, but her friend will never be able to make it come true so she jokingly retorted "Hmm, I would pretty much like a time travel machine... Ah, and a new phone case on top of that if possible."
"This part with the phone case will be done, the other on the other hand... I recommend you to write a letter to Santa. He'll come in a few days anyway so maybe he will fulfill your wish." Alina and Celine start to laugh at that. Until the end of the break, they joke more about how the letter should be written so Santa will have no choice other than to give her the time travel machine.
The next day started like always, waking up, eating, and running to the bus but today she wasn't alone. Today it was her brother's first day at her school and when she thought he only joked about watching her every step...
He didn't.
He clung to her the entire day, not because he needed guidance, just because he wanted to get on her nerves or for her to plead, he should leave her. In fact, she ignored his actions and pretended it was normal. Even at lunch, he kept her unwanted company. When they walked in the hallway together, especially the girls turned around who probably thought Joshua would be her boyfriend and are jealous of her. She ignored all of them and began to study while walking, although Joshua wouldn't stop talking about comparing his old school to this one and talked about more stuff which Celine doesn't pay any attention to at all. Eventually, he had his next classes in another hallway so they would go separate ways at least until they see each other at home again.
