The identical processes took place day and night. Celine observed the sun rising and setting from her window. While it was gorgeous to watch, the repetition made it monotonous.
She didn't have any other obligations, really. The fact that her room didn't have a bed or even a chair to sit on made it uncomfortable despite not being overly small. It had been awful for a whole year to be a prisoner.
She found herself in this room the day after being resurrected after having her throat cut by one of the leader's men. Since then, she was only permitted to leave it to take a bath. However, this trait did not appear until after the men had starved her for a whole month to determine whether she was immortal or not.
She was revered as a goddess, in their opinion. They never, however, prayed for her or treated her like a genuine one. It was not at all surprising that these men treated her like scum given their brutality and defiance of the gods.
To give her food, they just go into the room once a day. Sometimes the meat is fit to eat, other times it is rotten meat.
Occasionally, they came to see her twice a month and helped her to the bathtub. Since she could still wash, she didn't mind that the water was always chilly.
They had never given her the choice to go outdoors and use the restroom. For her hygiene, they gave her a small bin that was placed in her room. After delivering her food, at least they changed it regularly.
She had an excellent view of the woodland from her window. She initially experienced a cozy feeling from them that she couldn't place. But with time, she began to feel dread every time it grew dark. Something in her informed her that she wasn't safe since she was aware of the shadows' continued allure in the night.
She had a lamp with her when she was in the woods to protect herself, but these men refused to give it to her.
The night fire that these men built every evening was the only thing that kept her sane at night.
However, today felt strange.
She didn't hear any discussion on this day, and no soldier entered to give her food.
She was hunched up against the wall, daydreaming as usual. She glanced up to the window after hearing a sudden bird chirping.
A black raven crow was perched there and gave her direct eye contact. It was frightening. Its dazzling emerald eyes are in particular. She had no idea what it wanted until suddenly when it began making loud, horrible noises. Celine attempted to cover her ears but in vain. It screamed harder until it abruptly vanished, along with the crow.
No soldier signaled for a fire to be lit despite the sun sinking and everything becoming darker. It was both strange and unsettling. These men hadn't even arrived to empty her trash or provide her with food at this point.
Finally having the courage to get to the window, Celine got up off the ground. There was a sliver of hope that no guardian was underneath her, allowing her to finally flee. But to her dismay, two men were standing right below her window, like they always were.
She was still unable to understand why they did not illuminate the village.
These men from below eventually became aware of her after some time and began growling at her. She backed away right away.
What the hell? she pondered to herself.
The atmosphere radically altered as the sun sank. She couldn't make out a single sound. Even the breeze was completely silent, and neither villagers nor light could be seen or heard. The full moon had been the only source of illumination.
