Hours later

"What happened?" Marcatus groaned, his voice full of pain.

"They came for what they were looking for," Celine told him straightforwardly.

"And what would that be?" he rubbed his hand against his forehead.

She glanced at him and took a long breath before finally speaking up.

"Us, Sherlock." She mocked. "But mostly me."

"The question should be more like why did they find me so fast." She looked directly at him, full of accusations.

He shrieked up immediately and shook his head, which he regretted immediately because a new wave of pain set in.

"It was not me. I knew if I did that, many people would never be cured and have a painful death."

"Then who could have said anything? Was it your mother or even your sister?" Her voice was harsher than intended.

"No, they would never do that. And even if they wanted, there hadn't been a chance to because before I left them, they were already very ill. So, they definitely didn't travel to the pharaoh Apachnas to inform him of your upcoming arrival."

She nodded at that statement, deciding to trust his word.

"Has anyone else known of my visit?"

He didn't answer.

Celine repeated the question, now with more urgency.

"I-I don't know. It could be... I mean the people of my village saw that I was leaving my sick family behind. Maybe they came to the conclusion of me trying to find you." Marcatus answered reluctantly.

"Wait, you're telling me that you hadn't been careful enough before you made this travel to go find me, and, in the end, some of the villagers snitched on you?!" she was exasperated, feeling like punching him in the face if he wasn't already injured.

"That's basically it, yeah." It was only a whisper since he regretted being so foolish in making these big mistakes. Whatever awaits them, he has to bear the consequences. He knew he could never forgive himself if anything happened to Celine.

Now there is silence between the two. They just listen to the sounds from outside, but other than the wheels and the occasional sounds of the camels, no other conversations were to be overheard.

"What do you think will happen to us?" Marcatus asked eventually.

Celine didn't even bother to look at him, still angry at him.

"Hopefully not what I'm thinking."

"And what would that be?" he tried to get to know more.

Celine refused to answer him, it could be that she misinterpreted everything and she just confused cases. How are the chances that what she once read in a historical article is referring to what she's just experiencing? Impossible.

Changing her mind and wanting to answer him, the wagon came to an abrupt halt.

Now they both could hear voices coming from outside.

People were talking but what was almost unrecognizable was what was said.

Suddenly the door of the wagon opened and two soldiers were standing there.

"Come out, now!" one of them growls.

Celine and Marcatus immediately obeyed and stepped out. The moment they did, each of the soldiers grabbed them by the arms and dragged them away.
