Keira ran as fast as her legs could carry her and was just in time to see Tony crawling out from under a bunch of cars. It was lucky he had the suit to protect him, or he would've sported some serious injuries. To her great surprise, he didn't launch for her as soon as he got free, but rather flew back to his own team.
She covered her head in reflex as an explosion rang through the airport, but she needn't have done that for no rubble fell on her. It didn't take long before she fell into steps with Wanda and Clint, and she quickly scanned them for any injuries, but they looked unhurt.
"There's our ride." Clint pointed to the jet while he ran. If Tony and his team could just stay out of the way, they could get out of here without anybody getting hurt. The rest of them, Sam, Bucky, and Scott joined them, sprinting as fast as they could with Steve in the front.
"Come on!" The Captain yelled at them, gesturing at them to speed up and follow him.
"Somebody mind telling me what that explosion was?" Keira shouted while silently cursing herself for not grabbing a hair tie before leaving the compound. While she was still running, it was alright but she knew that as soon as the inevitable fight broke out, she would have a field day with trying to keep her hair out of her face.
"Ehm, totally my fault." Scott spoke up, scratching his neck in embarrassment. "Might've accidentally pissed them off."
Keira just glanced over at him. "By doing what?"
"By throwing a fuel tank at them..." Scott's bottom lip slipped between his teeth as he focused on not tripping, a difficult feat while sprinting as fast as he could. He was a bit perplexed by the fact that Keira didn't seem to have listened to anything happening over the comms.
"Why would you do that?!" Keira exclaimed, shock written all over her features. "We don't wanna kill anybody!"
"I thought it was a water tank, okay!" Scott yelped, recoiling slightly at Keira's tone.
But whatever answer Keira had been about to retort with, it was cut short as a laser beam burned a line into the ground. The whole team slid to a halt and looked up at the floating Vision, who was the culprit behind the now-destroyed asphalt.
The line marked the border they would have to cross if they wanted to succeed with their mission.
"Captain Rogers..." The synthezoid began slowly, his cape waving in the wind behind him. "I know you believe what you're doing is right." When he paused, Tony swooped in with Natasha in hand, and the remaining three team members also joined his side. "But for the collective good, you must surrender now."
The silent standoff that followed was one of the tensest moments in Keira's life.
Both teams were perfectly lined up against each other, looking at one another without moving a muscle. She knew that this wouldn't end pretty, both sides believed in their cause too much to give up without a fight. And yet, she couldn't help the miserable feeling that was swirling in the pit of her stomach.
It was like the classic saying 'don't hate the player, hate the game'. Only in this case, the players weren't listening. They were hating on each other instead of focusing on the real problem.
The Accords.
Keira brushed a hand against Wanda's, silently thanking her lucky star that they were united in this. She didn't know if she would've been able to handle being on different sides of this. It was already bad enough that half of her family and best friend were against her.
"What do we do, Cap?" Sam asked, and Keira threw a glance at Steve, who sucked in a breath.
"We fight."
