Luckily, there were only a few people in the waiting room. My eyes roamed until they landed on the woman at the front desk. She had long blonde hair and green eyes, seemingly occupied with her work.

"You can wait here, I'll go talk to her," I said. He didn't move.

"I got it," I said reassuringly.

He waited a minute before walking towards a wall that was only a few feet away and leaned against it.

You can do this, I told myself before wheeling over to the front desk. I really hated talking to new people. It's usually really awkward, at least for me.

"Hi," I said softly, hoping to get her attention without rudely interrupting her work.

The woman only continued to look at her computer. Maybe she didn't hear me.

"Hi," I said a bit louder, flashing her a fake smile.

"What!?" She raised her voice, clearly irritated, finally looking up from her computer.

"Sorry to bother you, but I need to see Doctor Hughes."

"Have a seat and wait for your name to be called like everyone else," she glared and returned her attention to her computer.

"But I don't have an appointment?"

"So schedule one and come back when you do," She said with a bitter tone.

"It's just that Doctor Hughes said it's ok to come whenever I wanted. He's a really good family friend."

"Do you think you can get some special treatment just b-'' She abruptly stopped talking, and her eyes focused on somewhere else. My face scrunched in confusion. I turned around to see the very annoyed stranger behind me.

"Valon? I mean, Mr. Vitale," She said in confusion. Valon? How does she know him?

He reached over the counter and picked up the phone, holding it up to her, and said, "I don't think you heard her clearly. Pick up the damn phone and tell Dr Hughes that he's needed by a family friend," clearly irritated with her.

She quickly grabbed the phone from him, pressed a few buttons, and waited for the line to pick up.

"Hello Doctor Hughes, there's someone here to see you," She said urgently. I looked up to see Valon with a hard stare targeted at the lady. If looks could kill, well, you know the rest.

"She says you're a friend of the family. Ok, bye," She said, and then hung up the phone.

"A nurse should call you in a s-," She began to say.

"May Wright?" A nurse suddenly called out after opening a door to the left of us.

"Thank you." I mumbled to the woman at the front desk, and she sent me a glare.

"Right this way, Miss Wright," the nurse said while she held the door wide enough for us to pass through.

"You know you didn't have to talk to her like that, It's not like I had an appointment," I said but got no response. He continued to push me along the hallway following the nurse that's just ahead when he suddenly stopped. I looked back to Valon to see why we had stopped. His gaze was set on a room to our right, Room 247.

"Valon....?" He didn't answer..

"Is everything ok...? I tried to get his attention again.

This time, his eyes hesitantly left the room and found mine. He seemed so far, although he was so close. He looked like he wanted to say something, but instead, he said, "It's nothing," and he continued to push me.
