I watched as Hunter hugged her mom before she sauntered over to me. My eyes drifted toward the table, and I began to mess with my sleeves once I felt a pang in my heart.

I always admired Hunter and Mary's relationship. They always seemed to get along great. Dana and I got along ok, but it was never natural. I hated to admit it, but my relationship with Dana always felt forced despite a few genuine moments.

"Hi...." She said after making her way toward me.

"Hi." I said, finally looking up from the table and into her worried eyes.

"I'm sorry about yesterday. I just wanted to make sure you're ok," She said, suddenly pulling me from the booth and into a hug.

"No, I'm sorry. You were just looking out for me."

"What happened last night....?" She asked, her face contorting into concern. I could tell she was afraid to hear the answer.

Knowing how she'd react, I gently pulled out of the hug and gestured to the booth.

"I'm fine. I just got into a little accident. You know how clumsy I can be," I said as I continued to play with my sleeves.

"A little accident?" She frowned.

"I was hit by a car...." I said for what felt like the millionth time in the last 48 hours.

"You what?!" She said as she tried getting up, but I tugged on her arm before she could go anywhere.

"After I left your house, I decided not to go home...."

"Where did yo -"

"You're just gonna freak out every few seconds, so let me explain," I said, holding up a hand.

She took a deep breath and continued to listen.

"After our fight yesterday, I went to this spot in the woods. I k-"

"The woods, May?! I thought you watched horror movies?"

"I just needed to go somewhere to clear my mind. All I ever do is worry, I just want a moment to myself even if I have to put myself in a potentially dangerous situation. That's how bad I needed it." Her face softened as she continued to listen.

"I know it sounds dumb but It's the one place I feel the most at peace. There's something about it that makes me feel like everything is gonna be ok," I shook my head, looking for the right words to explain how I felt.

"I went there last night to clear my head, and when I left, I didn't notice the car that was coming when I was crossing the street."

"May...." A look of sadness flashed over her face.

"I'm ok, I promise. It was just a sprained ankle."

"You went to the hospital?"

"Yea, the guy that hit me took me to the hospital."

"You got into a stranger's car...?" She frowned.

"I didn't really have much of a choice. My phone died, and It's not like I could walk," I said in defeat.

"I guess you're right, I'm just glad you're ok."

"Plus, he had a nice car, '' I quickly mumbled.

"He what?"

"Nothing," I smirked.

"Ok, wait. Why weren't you able to give him your address?"

"The medicine, I guess. I don't remember much, but that's also one of the side effects besides drowsiness. "
