“We don’t have to go…” Phillip stated as you chose what to take from your side of the closet and placed it on the bed “Maybe we can go, stay the night and come back tomorrow”You rolled your eyes and bit back a smile as you reached for a light jacket, turning around to look at him as he sat on the end of the bed with a grumpy stance.
“I thought Judd was driving us?” you pointed out, reminding him that you couldn’t leave without your ride, his eyes twitched before he pressed them shut in protest, groaning.
You chuckled at his tantrum, his mood regarding the family trip had had its ups and downs, down when Hillary suggested they all go for a little family getaway, up when she told him it was at a beautiful lake house upstate a friend of hers told her she could borrow, down again when she told him she was planning on a four day stay, which apparently, for Phillip, was far too long.
“Why are you making such a fuzz?” you laughed, standing in front of him and looking down at his resting bitch face, chuckling again “You spent seven days with them in the same house, the house where you literally grew up with them” you shrugged.
You could understand that being with family for too long isn’t always a party, but it wasn’t like they all saw each other all the time, or like they were staying a whole month.
“That was different, dad died, and mom threatened us.” he stated, and you rolled your eyes at the exaggeration “Besides, she’s acting weird, she’s onto something…”
Your brows raised in surprise, and a little shock at the conviction on his tone, you shook your head. The worst, maybe best, thing was, that you knew he’d have fun, teasing, drinking, and playing with his nieces and nephews, he was just being a baby, maybe he truly thought something was off with Hillary.
He looked up at you after a moment, as you walked a few steps closer to stand between his legs, his hands came to rest over your hip and caress up to your waist, and you laughed quietly at his attitude.
“I think the only thing your mom is up to is trying to have her kids and grandkids to spend time with her on a nice getaway…” you observed, his mouth quirked “It’ll be just four days, we’ll have stuff to do, and before you know it they’ll be over…”
“You don’t know her like I know her, don’t let the sweet grandma facade fool you.” he retorted with wide eyes, and you chuckled.
“I’ll try my best, if you try your best to enjoy yourself…” you raised a brow at him, his eyes shut close again and he huffed, planting his face on your belly in false protest, and you smiled down at him as you shook your head.

Your bag was closed and by the door around ten minutes before Judd was supposed to arrive, unlike Phillip, who had only started making his after breakfast, after insisting that he was too tired to pack last night when his protesting turned into a “little break” as he had called it. And then you had to listen to more huffing when you crawled out of bed to put the last of your items in your bag, because you didn’t want to rush around this morning and forget something…kind of what Phillip was doing now.
“Where’s the shampoo??” he yelled at you from the bathroom, and you sighed.
“Already packed!” you exclaimed back, and heard him walk out of the bathroom after a moment.
You were actually looking forward to the little vacation, you still hadn’t gotten a chance to go somewhere with Phillip, so this was a nice close approach to that project, and you were wishing for a change of environment.
He walked into the living room holding not one, but two bags, and your eyes widened a little as you looked at them both besides yours.
"Baby?" you called out as Phillip walked away and into the hallway again.
