After five years of bliss with my mate, tragedy struck. The pain of the loss caused my mate to become a person I no longer recognized. Two years of suffering followed before I finally made the decision to leave. I began a new life in a new pack, and...

After endless hours of driving, a stop to sleep, and multiple stops to fill up the tank, the GPS in Logan's 2018 charcoal grey charger finally told me I was nearing my destination. As I crested the top of the hill, I couldn't help but slam on the brakes as the shock of the view sucked the air from my lungs.
Suddenly the pack name, Moon Valley, made perfect sense. Straight across from me, two tall mountains rose from the earth side by side. The moon, currently in the waning gibbous phase, was centered perfectly between them as it made its ascent into the sky for another night. The light from the moon shone brightly like a beacon onto the packland that lay in the valley between us.
Scanning the area, I was shocked at the sheer size of it. The pack looked like its own little town from where I was. Even from that distance, one building directly in the center of it all stood taller than the others. The number of windows shining with welcoming light from that one building was surprising.
Must be the packhouse.
Without hesitation, I pressed on the accelerator, suddenly feeling a little more upbeat. Despite the constant throbbing pain in my chest and head, my body vibrated with excitement to explore my new surroundings.
Once I reached the bottom of the hill, I came to a stop at a large black iron gate with a guard house to one side. Two overly muscled men sauntered out of the building and over to my car. The first one to reach me rapped on my window with his knuckle before he bent down to peer through the glass, brown eyes watching me cautiously.
"This is a private community," he said gruffly before I even had a chance to lower the window.
Pressing the button, the motor whirred, and the glass slowly lowered from between us. Once my scent hit him, recognition seemed to flicker in those eyes. I was not the lost human he'd originally suspected me of being.
"I'm here to see Alpha Lincoln," I mumbled nervously, unable to find my usual confidence. I wracked my brain, trying to remember the Luna's name from all the Alpha conferences I'd attended, but I came up blank. They weren't friends of Levi's, and their pack was too far away for us to consider an alliance. So, I'd never talked to them more than passing greetings.
