After a few hours of shopping for furniture and other things for my room, we were back at the packhouse trying to get it done. Luna Becca ended up shopping with Josh and me, and the three of us had a lot of fun picking things out.

I'd been given a pretty large bedroom that was already furnished, but I'd chosen to buy my own furniture instead. Josh was taking the bigger stuff apart so he could move it into storage for whenever a pack member needed it. The things he couldn't carry out on his own had to wait until Alpha Linc showed up to help. As well as the new stuff that was still loaded in the back of Josh's pickup in front of the packhouse.

Josh's mate, Ella, was busy painting the baseboards and crown molding a glossy white while Becca and I worked on painting the walls. I'd decided on a hyper blue with one steel grey accent wall.

Music played quietly from someone's Bluetooth speaker in the corner of the room while we all worked.

"Hey, hey! How are you girls doing?" Alpha Linc asked as he strolled through the open door and looked around at our progress. He pressed a kiss to Becca's temple and whispered, "having fun?"

She beamed in response, her jade green eyes sparkling at the mere sight of her mate. A pang went through my chest, but I ignored it. Movement by the door caught my eye, and I turned to see a guy I hadn't met yet. His gaze was scanning the blue walls before it landed on the bright yellow duvet and pillowcases folded on the floor, waiting for the new bed to be brought in.

"It's uhhhh, bright," he muttered gruffly.

"That's kind of the point," I said, shooting him a smirk before focusing my attention on Linc. "Who's this?" I gestured towards the new guy with the paint roller in my hand.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Linc said quickly. "This is Calder, my Beta. Calder, this is Everleigh. She's going to be staying here for a little while."

I did a horrible job of hiding my surprise when he announced the man as his Beta. I knew that for a fact when I saw Calder's reaction to whatever my expression showed. His onyx eyes seemed to somehow grow even darker, and his pale blond brows slammed down in a fierce look of annoyance.
