Chapter 17: When the Seams Burst
Tessa's Point Of View:
Whole. I felt whole again. What I hadn't realized was that not having Jessie with us was actually tearing me apart inside. She was like my sister and I needed her.
"Tessa?" I looked up at Alex who still had his arm over my shoulders. I liked it. It was comforting.
"Yeah?"
"What should we do now?" he asked.
"I guess we expose the company," I said with a smirk.
"That a girl," he said pulling me closer to him.
I looked down the hall and saw Nate. He was saying something that sounded compliant. I was still really angry with him. He had really hurt me. As we continued down the hall my vision started to go fuzzy and me head started to throb.
"Alex,"I said shakily, "It's happening again." Why now? Black started to eat away at the edges of my vision.
"Crap," Alex said as I began to fall. The pain in my head was unbelievable.
I hadn't had an attack sense I had last seen Jaci, like, four months ago. Ever since I was little I would get these "attacks", so to speak. I didn't know why I got them and may never find out.
"Hold on Tessa," Alex whispered as he lifted me up. I wrapped my arms around his neck to help hold myself up. I was on the verge of tears as he pushed Jessie's apartment door open.
"What the?" I heard someone, one if the boys I think, say.
"Jesse, can I use your room?" Alex asked ignoring the others.
"Sure," she said with concerned.
I felt the slight bounce of Alex walking again and then he set me down on Jessie's bed. It was cool and soft.
"What's wrong with her?" Zander asked.
I curled up into a ball and tried to hold back tears. The attacks had never lasted this long. They had never been this bad. It felt like someone was repeatedly hitting me in the head with a hammer.
"I need a cold wash cloth," Alex said to Zander.
"Okay," Zander said obviously not satisfied by Alex's response.
"Tessa, can you try to relax?" he asked.
"Attacks... never been this long. Worst... ever been," I chocked out.
"Shh," he said putting a hand in my shoulder.
"Here," I heard Zander say. Something cold and wet, the wash cloth, was laid over my forehead. It helped a little, but not lot.
"Thanks," Alex said to Zander.
"No problem," Zander said then I heard him leave.
"Is it easing at all?" Alex asked.
I shook my head and winced at the movement.
"Should I call Veevien and Adeline?" he asked.
"Yes," I said weakly. I heard him pull his phone out and dial the number.
"Hey, Adeline, when you guys were testing the disease on people was one of the symptoms headaches so bad that the person practically passes out?" he asked. I could slightly hear Adeline's voice bit I couldn't make out what she was saying. "Because Tessa is having one of them," he said anxiously. "We found Jessie and are at her apartment now." He sounded even more anxious and even a little angry now.
