My six year old daughter sat in between my legs as I parted her thick curly hair into sections with a wide tooth comb.
I could tell she had a bad day at school. I asked her once what the problem was, but she said it was nothing. If she wasn't going to tell me now, She would surely cave in and tell me any time soon.
I knew my daughter.
"Mommy?" She asked playing with her thumb.
"Yes, baby?" I asked her.
"What was daddy like?" She asked me.
I sighed. Whenever she was feeling down she'd bring up that question. I've already explained to her how her daddy was like and how our relationship was but she was never satisfied. I couldn't Blame her though. She's never known her father and she doesn't even know what he currently looks like.
I showed her some pictures of when me and her Father were together in highschool and early college, before.
She held a small frame of her Dad in her hands. One day she was playing on my phone and she came across a picture of him. She loved the picture so much that she begged me to blow it up for her and get it framed.
Because I love my daughter so much, I agreed.
She kept her eyes glued to the picture.
"My dad's name is Justin, right mommy?" She asked turning to look at me with those soft hazel eyes she inherited from him.
"Right, sweetie."
"Tell me more about him."
I didn't like speaking of Justin too much. It always made me remember the disgusting split we had that devasted us both.
"Justin was a very intelligent guy.."
"That means smart, right mommy?"
"Yes ma'am. He's always been smart. We met in junior year of Highschool. Eleventh grade. He was new to our school and didn't really like socializing with people. I was the one that got him to open up. The more we talked and hung out, the closer we became. He wasn't always so smart. In fact, he never did any of his work. One day he confessed his love for me but the thing was, I had dreams. I wanted to go to college and be somebody. I wasn't going to be with someone who didn't have a goal. So, I told him that. I knew he wanted to be with me so one day, he came up to school prepared and actually putting an effort into his classes."
"Is daddy still smart now?" She asked.
I smiled. "Oh yes.." In fact so smart, he owns his own multi-million dollar company. "I'm pretty sure he is."
"Was daddy nice?"
"He was nice. But then again he wasn't the nicest person. Either way, I loved him with all my heart and he loved me."
"Mommy did you think he was handsome?"
"Darling, who didn't think your Father was handsome?" I chuckled. She got the hint and giggled.
"Do I remind you of daddy sometimes?" She asked. How did she not? Tiana was a product of me and Justin's love, not to mention, she also had his hazel eyes and stubborness. "Yes, Tiana. You also have his eyes and smile."
"Do you still love daddy?"
I smiled. "Yes darling. I still do."
"Do you think he still loves you too?"
"I'm not sure." I frowned and brushed a section of her hair. Justin looked content with his life right now from the interviews and appearances I've been seeing. He was also currently dating a model.
