I am folding clothes and helping Grayson with his homework.
"Luke has 3 apples and he gives one to mommy. How many apples does Luke have left?", I asked.
"...two", said Grayson.
"Good job", I said. "Write it down"
Suddenly, I hear Carter walk into the room and I see Grayson sit up straight. Grayson's face was no longer pleasant, he was serious now.
"Hey Grayson", said Carter.
"Hey daddy", said Grayson
Carter walks to me.
"Can you undo my tie? You put it on there pretty tight", said Carter.
"Yea. Sure", I said.
I put the clothes down and began untying his tie.
"I arranged my flight for you and Grayson to come with me on the business trip", said Carter.
"You did?", I asked.
"Yea. You said you were lonely the last time right?", he asked.
"Yea but I don't wanna get in the middle of your work either", I said.
"I took that into consideration and I'm fine with that", said Carter.
"The last time I came along...well you know what happened", I said.
"Grayson acts better now.", said Carter. "Besides, I'm giving you the time to do whatever y'all want while I work."
"Okay", I said as I finished untying his tie.
"But I did make us some reservations at your favorite restaurant for tomorrow night", said Carter.
"That's sweet. Thank you", I said as I smile.
The times when he is like this are what I love the most. But I know I wouldn't get this moment forever and that was my problem.
"I don't know if you need to go shopping or something but...you have the morning and day tomorrow to do that", he said.
"Okay", I replied. "And speaking of tomorrow, I have to talk with Grayson's teacher at 12."
"For what?", asked Carter.
"Just a mid-year conference", I said.
"She doing that with just you or all of the parents?", asked Carter.
"Are you asking if you can come?", I asked. "I'm pretty sure you can."
"No. I'm asking if she does a mid-conference with all of her student's parents?", asked Carter. "I just never seen someone do it in the middle of school hours. Why the rush"
"The kids will be at lunch", I said.
"...I don't know about that. I better come too", said Carter as he make a face as if something was wrong.
"What about work?", I asked.
"Work can wait", said Carter. "When's dinner?"
"I'll have that started in just a moment. I'm helping Grayson with his homework.", I replied.
"How about you help him in the kitchen while you cook? I'm hungry.", said Carter.
"Well...I suppose I can do that", I said. "Come on Grayson.
