Josh pulled up at a skyscraper. I didn't even want to imagine how many floors it had. It was endless and my neck hurt from looking at it.
"Aren't you coming in there with me?" I looked at Josh incredulously as he tapped the steering wheel, waiting for me to get out of the car.
"No Alex. I am actually going to leave you here and get back home to continue my movie. In case you don't know, Tony is about to confess his feelings to Mia and I can't miss that part" He touched my head, "You are going to be a nice little bitch and get yourself this job, and actually keep it this time or so help me God, I'll lock you in a dungeon."
He started pushing me out of the car "Now shoo. Get out of the car. I don't want to see you or hear from you unless you are calling me that you got the job"
I turned around to face him looking through the window with fake tears in my eyes. It always worked. "Oh Josh, I promise to be a good girl, I won't screw this up. Please don't leave me, just go in with me, please. I'm your best friend and I love you" I pleaded, giving him the best sorry face I could muster.
Josh looked at me stupefied "Seriously! Do you have to go that low? Unfuckingbelievable!" He shook his head and zoomed off. "Asshole!" I yelled at his disappearing car.
I turned abruptly and wham! My head hit a chest. I shrieked holding my head and glaring daggers at the chest. I didn't even look at the owner. Oh, it hurt, my forehead hurts. Damn Josh, this was all his fault. He would have just come with me and this whole thing would have been avoided. Damn him again.
"Miss, are you alright? I'm..."
A voice started saying and I cut him off "Oh shut up please, you've just added to my bad day. First, I lost my sleep and then I had to listen to Josh yap all day asking me to be a good girl, and now this. Damn you!" I stormed off walking into the building but I changed my mind and came back to the man, who interestingly was still standing stoic.
"And damn Josh too!" Saying it to his face this time around. I pushed past him and walked into the building registering somewhere in my mind that the man was beautiful. Bah, he just had a nice chiseled face with a beautiful face and beautiful lips and beautiful... Stop right there Alex, I told my inner self. I was here for a job and to make myself proud.
I stepped towards the receptionist who seemed cheerful, too cheerful to see me. "Hello, how may we help you?" She asked me looking all chirpy.
Well, you can start by closing your teeth. Too much chirpiness makes me sad "I have an appointment with Jimmy," I said instead.
"Oh! you are Alex" She chirped again and I winced in my head but nodded at her. "I will ring his secretary while you go through the elevator. Someone will be waiting for you on the fourth floor"
I nodded and watched her pick up the telephone as I made my way to the elevator. I got in and got out on the fourth floor where I met another chirpy lady. "Hi, Jimmy is expecting. Just go through that door" She pointed to the door and didn't fail to add "Nice to meet you".
I rolled my eyes and walked to the office. I knocked gently and I was surprised I had such patience. However, what did not surprise me was how I didn't have the patience to be invited in before I entered.
Jimmy, I presumed, stood up to meet me as I entered. He shook my hands and offered me a sit.
"Philip has told me everything about you. Very lovely to meet you" He smiled
"Everything?" I asked because he needed to know what he was getting himself into. I didn't have good references. The most I had kept a job is two months. All my employers hated me. They said they couldn't stand my temper. As if I was the one with issues, I scoffed and rolled my eyes inwardly.
"Yes, everything Miss Simone"
"You can call me Alex"
"Okay. Anyways, your job will be coming to the office every day to shadow me. You don't have to do much. Just be present"
"Is that all?" I said to him. Something smelled very fishy here. In fact, the stench was overwhelmingly familiar. It smelled like Josh's interference.
I had this screaming feeling that Josh was behind this whole thing. They were trying to set me up and make me stay committed to a job. If he thought I was going to let this slide, then he had greatly misjudged me. The idiot at my front, however, would not have to suffer through my rage. He was just a tool between Josh and Phil.
"That's all" He looked at me expectantly.
"Okay then, you've got yourself an employee."
The surprised look on his face confirmed my thought. He was in on it. And Josh was going to pay dearly, with his life or ice cream, I had yet to decide.
I shook his hands and he got up very patronizingly. hmm really fishy
"Damn Josh" I mumbled and walked out of the office leaving Jimmy standing dazed.
