Chapter 13

Shide's POV

I was a little taken aback when Shuyi started responding to my kiss. Initially, when I convinced myself to kiss him and help him shut everyone's mouth, I thought it would just be a peck on the lips, but things escalated quickly as soon as our lips met. For a moment, it felt like the time had stopped and it was just him and I in the whole world. However, I pulled away abruptly because I felt unsure about my feelings for him, and more importantly, his feelings for me.

I could feel an adrenaline rush just by thinking about kissing him again, but I didn't want to ruin our connection by making things confusing for both of us. Also, I had never felt so strangely attracted to a man before, so I wanted to first understand what I was feeling was real or just momentary, and kissing Shuyi so deeply in front of everyone would only make him overthink.

I slowly pulled myself a little back and looked at him. I'm almost sure he looked a little disappointed. My heart felt so heavy suddenly. 'He didn't like it?' But before I could ask him anything, he got up from his chair "I'm a little tired so I'll go to sleep now, good night Zack and Yuxin" I watched him slowly walk back to our tent and go inside.

After a few minutes, I still felt uneasy because I didn't know what Shuyi was thinking, so I made an excuse, "Zack I think I'll call it a day now, my head is aching a little" He looked a little concerned and just nodded lightly, "take a medicine before you sleep, good night" I smiled gently and walked towards my tent.

I opened the tent and went inside. Shuyi had his eyes already shut. I lay right by his side in our small yet cozy tent, and glanced at his angelic face. My eyes went from his dove shaped eyes to his cute little nose and stopped at his perfectly plump pink lips. I gulped and bit my lower lip trying to remember what Shuyi tasted like. I couldn't control myself from touching his lips gently with my thumb since I thought he was already asleep.

"What do you think you're doing?" Shuyi said softly without opening his eyes.

I felt my heart skip a beat like I was just caught stealing, and quickly removed my finger. "Ahh...there was something on your face"

Shuyi sighed and turned his face to look at me, "you didn't have to go that far earlier, I honestly meant it when I said I don't want to upset your girlfriend or anyone you like"

"And I told you not to worry about it" It broke my heart a little to hear him say that he doesn't mind me having a girlfriend, obviously making it clear that he didn't feel anything I was feeling for him. But still, even when broken, my heart only wanted to be close to him, make him happy, care for him. I had never felt a stronger urge to hold someone in my arms before this moment. Yet, I couldn't show him my feelings till I was sure they weren't just out of sympathy, concern and pity I felt towards him because of how Akira made him suffer.

Suddenly there was a loud noise outside followed by unclear whispers and other ghostly sounds.

I laughed lightly "It's a prank. They're scaring the freshmen by making these noises, don't worry"

"I'm not scared of ghosts anyway" Shuyi said, but his face told a different story. Whenever someone made a scary sound, he'd close his eyes tightly and squeeze his hands.

"You sure you're not scared?" as soon as I said this, someone made a loud bang right outside our tent and Shuyi quickly jumped and got closer to me squeezing his eyes shut. I smiled at how innocently adorable he was and gently held his hand. "I'm right here, you can relax"

We stayed close holding hands for a while as I watched Shuyi slowly calm down. I closed my eyes embracing his closeness and touch, and gradually fell asleep.

Shuyi's POV

I woke up and was startled for a moment to see Shide so close to my face. I jumped back quickly before he woke up to avoid making him uncomfortable. I was in the middle of a beautiful forest, with sun rising through the clouds and birds chirping right outside, and yet my eyes were still set on the guy sleeping soundly like a little kid. I had never gotten the opportunity to look at Shide's perfectly proportioned face so closely and carefully before so I wanted to remember even the small details. My heart beat loudly and quickly as my eyes wandered around his godly face.

"Gosh...he is so beautiful. With a face like that, there's no way he's single. Lucky girl"
