The deadly silence we were listening to, whilst waiting for ozpin to speak, was one of coldness and anticipation was as thick as the fog that idly hovered around us. I would towards Ozpin as he started explaining the goal, the gist of it was the first person we made eye contact with (who wasn't already in a pair) would be part of our teams for the rest of our school year. Each pair would retrieve a relic from an abandoned temple deep in Emerald Forest and would return with the relic in hand to the cliff side. The part I was curious about was the presence of the creatures of Grimm. From what they sounded like, they were monsters who attacked and killed humans for fun, team CFVY had also mentioned them the previous evening. Whilst deep in my thoughts I had noticed the launch pads we were standing on had started launching some of the students until it was my turn, right before the boy who had threw up on the ship last night. "It's Hero Time!" I shouted as I slammed my hand hand onto my watch, flying off as I did so due to the launch pad sending me flying.

"Spider Monkey!" I called as I turned into spider monkey, grabbing onto a branch of a tree to stop my fall. "Okay let's see what I can do" I said to myself as I started navigating the trees, jumping from branch to branch heading in one direction and hoping the temple would be there. "Hmm not too bad so far but I can do better" I said to myself as I jumped down to the floor, changing back human for a split second before changing into an alien once again.
"XLR8!" I called as I started running as fast as I could through the forest.

As I quickly made my way to the temple I turned back human to investigate the ruins. In a small clearing stood several chiseled platforms, each with Chess pieces, each with pillars made of the same material stood proudly behind them, though one seemed weird. Where as, indicative to the title 'ruins', most of the other pillars stood broken one of the pillars showed no signs of decay- in fact it looked like it had been made just yesterday. There was a certain polish to it, each line showed care and as I traced my hand across the particular etchings I moved around the pillar and saw the most peculiar sight. "The plumber symbol?" I asked myself as I looked closer to the pillar.
Peering forward I put my hand carefully on the symbol as a green flash enveloped me and I turned into my aliens one after an other.

"BIG CHILL!" I shouted in pain, feeling the transformation take its toll on me, which it never had before. It was like my body was freezing from head to toe

"SWAMP FIRE!"
I called as the freezing pain turned into a scorching torment

"HUMUNGOUSAUR!" I struggled to say, as the scorching sensation vanished leaving my body feeling heavier then 100,000 tons, I almost fell to my feet but I couldn't quite.

"ECHO ECHO!" I screeched, even though I was smaller and my ear drums felt like they were bursting, my hand didn't let go to the Plumbers symbol etched on the pillar.

"SPIDER MONKEY!"
I cried as it hit me, it wasn't that I didn't want to let go- I couldn't let go it was like I was stuck to the symbol

"DIAMOND HEAD!" I groaned as a sharp pain sent spikes along my limbs, chest and head. What was happening?

"XLR8!" I hastily spoke as I couldn't control the Kineceleran's feet, they were running as fast as they could, creating a crater below my feet leaving me hanging in the air

"GREYMATTER!" I squeaked as I fully understood what was happening to me, I was stuck to the pillar and even with no ground beneath me I cant move or let go.

"FOUR ARMS!" I glared as I put all four of the arms onto the pillar as if to rip my hands from this Grapple the pillar held me in.

"CANNONBOLT!" I roared as I finally let go, turning back human as I landed square on my back in the soft dirt XLR8 had dug beneath him.

Looking up to the symbol which held me captive, the etching glowed green and opened up, the seemingly solid pillar showing a hollow interior with a dusty white checkers piece inside. Getting to my feet I noticed the checker piece was on a similar surface to that of the chess pieces, it was even at the same height as the other pieces. I quickly took it as I looked hesitantly at my watch. Was...was that what the people I fought felt every time I used an Alien? The pain...no...if I didn't do it more people would suffer and feel the pain I felt as I experienced the strengths of my aliens first hand. I turned into XLR-8 as I ran in a straight direction, heading to where Ozpin and Professor Goodwitch's said they would be waiting for those successful in their trials.

"Sir, the relic of Galvan Prime has been retrieved by Ben Tennyson." The female professor spoke, looking at her tablet witnessing Ben hesitating to transform into his alien.
"Good, if our informant was right then Ben is who we need to survive this war against Salem." The headteacher calmly spoke, though his words held no worry his face showed a contrast.
A determined look rested on his eyes, with a furrowed brow and his usual calm hand grasped his staff and weapon. "Sir Tennyson is on his way" Professor Goodwitch informed, Ozpin relaxing back to normal as to show no worry.

As quick as a flash XLR-8 appeared in a blue blur in front of the two teachers, spinning the checker piece on one of his claws "Didn't see a single Grimm whilst down there, kinda disappointed I wanted to test my strength against them." XLR-8 cockily spoke with a smirk on his face.
"Talk like that will lead to your end by their hands Mr. Tennyson" Glynda replied with a glare.
"I know, I know, jeez cant blame a guy for trying to ease the tension in the room...cliff...however the saying goes," XLR-8 quickly spoke before turning back to Ben as the wielder of the Ultimatrix turned back to normal, looking at his watch curiously "Hmm so this new design doesn't have a time limit, its like the master control." The wielder stated to himself.
"Forgive me for asking but there is a limit to how you can use your weapon?" Professor Ozpin inquired with a tilt of his head, as Ben nodded his.
"Yeah, at least with the old Omnitrix anyways there was a time limit. The only time there wasn't a time limit was when I met Azmuth and he unlocked Way Big for me." I explained.
"Hmm, did you use the Omnitrix much after the fact?" Ozpin asked as Ben shook his head.
"No, after that adventure and almost putting the universe at risk I put it away...to not use it again." I replied as I looked at my watch a sigh leaving my mouth.
"Sir you'll want to see this" Professor Goodwitch interrupted, as Ozpin was about to give a response to me.
"What is wrong, professor?" Ozpin asked as Glynda showed a few familiar faces being surrounded by two giant monsters, one being a massive scorpion and the other being a giant bird.
"Grimm are attacking eight of the candidates." Glynda replied as she flung the image into the air showing a hologram of the CCTV in the Emerald forest giving me a better look on a couple of the people.
"That's Ruby and Yang!" I exclaimed as I hurried to the edge of the cliff, flicking through my aliens.
"Ben, I forbid you to go, its their trial to beat" Ozpin quickly responded to my hurrying before I looked back at him.
"Punish me if you will, heck not let me pass the trial if you must. But I cant leave people to what could be their deaths.
"Trust your fellow students Mr. Tennyson" Glynda responded before I turned away from them.
"I do trust them, I know they are all strong its how they got here. But I also know this world needs them as much as it needs you guys." I replied quickly before finding Big Chill and getting ready to take off.
"Ben don't" Ozpin calmly spoke as I shook my head.

"ITS HERO TIME!" I shouted as I slammed my hand onto the watch
