„Aw, shit.", the blonde girl mumbled, as she eventually reached the road. After walking through five different gardens, being chased by a dog, stepping into a puddle by the marsh and getting hit in the face by several branches, Ava finally made it to the road. And she still was lost. She didn't recognize the road and had no idea which direction she should take to make it back home. Ready to give up and lose her money, she reached inside her pocket to pull out her phone. Just before pressing the call button, she suddenly heard the noise of a motor. Her dark blonde curls waved perfectly in the wind, as Ava turned her head. In the distance, she saw a motorbike coming into her direction. Deciding that she would win this bet, she slid the phone back into the pocket of her black shorts and walked a little further onto the road. Once the motorbike was close enough, the girl reached her arms up and started to wave at the person on the motorbike. As she stretched her arms out to the sky, her grey, cropped Nirvana T-shirt slid up a little and exposed the pale skin of her stomach. The motorbike slowed down and Ava let her arms fall back to her sides. Ava smiled at the stranger and took a few steps further, when the motorbike stopped on the road.
"Hey, you alright?", the blonde boy asked and placed his right foot onto the ground. He wore blue jeans and a white t-shirt, most of his dirty blonde hair was covered by a red hat.
"Yeah, just lost. Do you know how to get back to the Southside?", Ava asked and shuddered at the feeling of her still wet socks and shoes, as she took another step forward.
"Sure, you just have to follow down the road. It's about 5 miles from here though.", the stranger replied and pointed right in front of him.
"5 miles?!", Ava asked shocked and realized, that she had walked into the complete wrong direction for the last two hours straight. The blonde girl threw her head back in annoyance and sighed. She heard how the motor quiet down and suddenly heard a light laugh. Looking back at the stranger, she saw him looking at her with amusement, his blue eyes sparkling and his pink lips turned into a light smirk.
"You really got lost. What you want at the Southside? That's not a place for tourists."
"I'm not a tourist, I live there.", Ava answered and watched how he raised his eyebrows, the amusement never leaving his face. Ava thought that he looked cheeky, but his blue eyes were soft and friendly. Her grandma would totally call him a naughty boy. Ava smiled a little at the thought.
"Really? I've never seen you there."
"I just moved here a few days ago. I live down in the cut. I'm Ava, by the way." Ava reached her hand out for the stranger to take and the boy smiled a little, when he shook it.
"I'm JJ. So, Ava, I happen to live in the cut. If you're up for a ride, I can take you back.", the boy offered and just the thoughts of her wet shoes and hurting feet, made Ava nod her head in agreement.
"My feet would be forever thankful.", she mumbled and heard JJ chuckle. Without thinking about it, Ava climbed on the motorbike behind him and placed her hands on his shoulders to have some kind of support. JJ didn't seem to mind and started the motor again, before he straightened the steering wheel of the motorbike and pulled his foot back onto the pedal. Driving off, Ava finally felt her body relax. She breathed out and closed her brown eyes, as the sun dried her wet clothes and the wind cooled her body. As they got closer to the southside, Ava looked around and tried to recognize any of the houses and properties.
"You can drop me off here.", Ava said loudly, when she saw the small house in the distance. She tapped the boys shoulder and JJ nodded, before he slowed down. Placing his foot onto the ground again and turning off the motor, JJ waited for Ava to get off the motorbike.
"So, thank you for not being a serial killer and brining me home safely.", Ava said and tilted her head, after she stood next to JJ again. JJ laughed again and shook his head.
