Chapter 18

Ava woke up in confusion. First, her mind was completely empty and a second later, a million thoughts rushed through her head. She didn't know, where she was. She didn't know, how much time had passed. She really didn't know anything, only, that she felt scared. Slowly lifting her head and looking around the room, Ava spotted Sarah sleeping on the sofa across her. Getting up, Ava carefully moved over to her and knelt next to the sofa.

"Sarah? Sarah, wake up.", Ava whispered and softly shook Sarah's shoulder. Sarah stirred and frowned, before she slowly opened her eyes. Getting blinded by the light, Sarah put her hands over her face and rubbed it a few times, before she sighed and carefully sat up.

"Hey, are you ok? Do you know where we are?", Ava asked quietly and looked up at Sarah. Sarah looked around the room and nodded her head, before she rubbed her temples. She probably had the same headache that Ava felt.

"We're on a boat.", Sarah answered and Ava just nodded, before standing up. She walked over to the door and sighed, when it wouldn't open.

"Disappointed, but not surprised.", Ava mumbled and walked back to Sarah to sit down next to her.

"Before we make a plan how to get off this boat... do you wanna talk?", Sarah carefully asked and looked at Ava with warm eyes. Ava thought about it. She didn't quite feel like talking about it to Sarah, but she knew, that she needed to get things off her chest, otherwise she would end up having panic attacks every few hours. Her mind wouldn't give her a rest, until she would spill out her thoughts.

"To be honest, I don't even know what to say. Rose was at my house this morning. She had an argument with my dad. Turned out, she was there, because she wanted to meet me. My dad confessed, that my mum adopted me and that this woman was pregnant with his child, when he was with my mum already. My mum couldn't have kids, this woman...Rose... didn't want a child and so one thing led to another. So, now, I'm here. On this island, that was supposed to heal me, but instead I get to know, that my mum isn't my mother. And that my mother is a woman who didn't want me, who is married to someone who killed people, who's the stepmom of my new friend and also the stepmom of the boy that tried to choke me. Oh, and she drugged and kidnapped me. Yeah, uhm... the only good part is, that I think I totally fit into yours and JJs messed up life now." Raising her eyebrows, Ava pressed her lips together into an awkward smile as she stared at Sarah. Sarah couldn't help but chuckle and placed her hand on Ava's leg.

"You're definitely a fucked up pogue now.", Sarah answered and Ava broke into a smile. Before the both girls were able to think of a plan on how to flee, the door unlocked and opened. They both turned around to see Wheezie standing in the doorway and Rose walking inside.

"Let us go, right now! I'm so fucking done with all of you, let us go, right now.", Sarah spat and jumped up from the sofa. Her voice sounded angry, maybe even threatening, but Rose didn't seem to be impressed by it. Looking past Sarah, Rose looked at Ava, who instantly stepped backwards again.

"Calm down, Sarah. I will not hurt you. Come with me and I will explain everything to you. When I'm back, we will talk about everything, Ava.", Rose said and looked back and forth between Sarah and Ava.

"I'm not going anywhere with you.", Sarah answered again and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Sarah, please.", Wheezie suddenly pleaded and Sarah looked at her little sister. Sarah eyes softened. She turned around to look at Ava, who encouraged her with a nod. Sarah agreed and followed Rose outside the room. Ava walked up to the door and heard the muffled noise of their talking.

"Wheezie, will you lock the door again, please." Ava heard Rose say and heard Wheezie agree to it loudly. The sound of a turning key filled her eyes again and she let her head drop against the door with a sigh. A moment later, the same sound of a turning key was heard again and shortly after, Ava heard how someone walked away. Ava decided to wait for a moment, before she tried to turn the doorknob.
