"You can do it. The Twinkie can make it.", JJ encouraged his best friend, when John B had stopped the van. The tide had started to come in and the path back to the cut was already flooded. Ava hardly disagreed with JJs optimism, but stayed quiet anyway. John B nodded his head, went into reserve and drove backwards.

"Alright, everyone, hold onto something.", he said, before he engaged the gear again. Stepping onto the gas, John B sped through the water. Just before they could reach the other side, the Twinkie came off the path and crashed. While Ava squeezed her eyes shut, she heard Kiara sigh and Pope muttering something under his breath. For about fifteen minutes, the pogues tried to free the Twinkie, until they gave up.

"How far is the Cut from here? I could go and get my dads truck. Maybe we can pull out the Twinkie with it.", Ava suggested, while the water around her kept rising.

"Sounds like a plan to me.", Sarah agreed and climbed onto the top of the Twinkie.

"Someone needs to come with me though and drive the truck, I don't have a license.", Ava added and looked around.

"I'm going with you, we can get some tow ropes at my place.", JJ said and walked towards Ava. His friends quietly agreed and looked for a comfortable place to wait for them, while the tide came in. Nodding at him, Ava followed JJ through the water. They escaped the water after 10 minutes and needed another 5 minutes to make it to Avas house. Standing right in front of it, Ava suddenly stopped and stared at it. It was a fact, that Avas father was pretty cool. He was laid back and carefree, but Ava wasn't sure, how he would react. Ava had stayed the night somewhere else and he hadn't known where. At the same time, as a storm had raged through the Outer Banks. Her neck was bruised and just like the first time she had been lost, her hair was full of dirt and her clothes were wet.

"Are you ok?", JJ suddenly said and pulled Ava out of her thoughts. Looking at him, she nodded.

"Something's bothering you. What is it?", JJ asked, knowing well that she was lying.

"I'm not sure, if my dad will just give us the truck like that. I mean, he would, but I think I owe him some explanation first and I'm not sure how he'll react. I've never really lied to him, but I don't think I can tell him the truth.", Ava explained and saw how JJ slowly nodded.

"Do you want me to go inside with you?", JJ asked and Ava thought about it for a second, before she shook her head no.

"I'll be back in a minute.", she said and quietly entered the house. To her surprise, the house didn't greet her with the same silence. From the living room, Ava heard her father talking loudly. Like he was arguing with someone. Adrenaline rushed through her body, when Ava sneaked closer to the living room. Pressing her back to the wall, Ava listened to the argument.

"I have the right to meet her."

"You don't have any rights, when it comes to her. You chose to assign those rights. I want you to stay away from us, until I talked to her."

A bad feeling grew inside her stomach and Ava started to feel uncomfortable. Something was wrong. Breathing out and trying to calm down her heartbeat, Ava turned around and quickly entered the living room. As they heard her entering, their argument stopped and they both turned to face her. Seeing a blonde woman in her living room, Ava felt her stomach turn upside down. She forced herself to ignore her presence and looked at her father instead.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, but I uhm – can I borrow the truck for a while? The van of my friend got stuck in the marsh and we need to pull it out.", Ava quickly said and tried to ignore the strange woman in her living room.

"You don't have a license, sweetie.", her dad reminded her and Ava stepped back a little, so the light wouldn't fall on her face and neck.

"Yeah, JJ will drive. He's waiting outside. Is that ok?", Ava asked, after she had pointed to the front door.
