The coffee shop was dead. It was a Wednesday, to be fair, but they'd only had three customers in the last hour, and Bakugou was bored out of his damn mind. Iida had finally gone home, but Bakugou was too worn out to fuck around or do anything against the rules that afternoon. Deku was working on homework at the counter, the damn nerd, and Kaminari was blabbing Kirishima's head off. Kirishima had come by for some coffee, but that was hardly new and certainly didn't feel like a customer coming by, seeing as he was there nearly every day. He and Kaminari might as well be conjoined twins with the way they couldn't be apart. Bakugou wondered briefly why it didn't make Shinsou jealous or at the very least confused as to whether Kaminari was interested in Kirishima or vice versa, but somehow the two of them just felt like like a natural pair of idiots - last two braincells or some shit. Shinsou had stopped by just earlier to flirt with Kaminari for a while, and Bakugou was just waiting for one of them to make a move so he could stop watching the train wreck that was their attempt at subtlety. It felt the same with Todoroki and Deku, but he was pretending he hadn't noticed that. Deku got Todoroki the closest to flustered that Bakugou thought the kid had ever been, and Deku was oddly calmer with Todoroki than usual. It was like they sort of swapped, in a way. He didn't like it, but Todoroki had greeted Bakugou as well and set up another training session, so Bakugou really probably needed to get over himself and let people be happy. He was just worried, that was all. He still didn't know Todoroki well enough to approve yet.
"How's the training going?" Kirishima asked Bakugou, interrupting his thoughts.
"What training?" Bakugou asked absently. His brain had been foggier than usual, and he was getting stuck in his head a lot.
"With Izuku's friend?" Kirishima laughed. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good." Bakugou brushed him off. "It's going well. He's okay."
"That is pretty high praise for you," Kirishima noted as if he wasn't in the middle of taking their first order in twenty minutes, and Deku laughed.
"I said 'he's okay,'" Bakugou snorted.
"Yeah, and normally you just call everyone an idiot and refuse to speak to them," Kaminari argued with a sly grin. "This guy must be pretty special."
"He's friends with Deku and he's helping me train for free, it isn't gonna kill me to be nice," Bakugou grouched back. He didn't like Kaminari's tone- it was the same one he'd used to tease Bakugou about Deku the other night, and teasing about Todoroki made even less sense. Not that teasing him about Deku made any sense, because it didn't. Not at all.
"Free training, hmmmmmm?" Kaminari said, wiggling his eyebrows around suggestively.
"Go make the customer their fucking mocha," Bakugou said with a glare so strong Kaminari actually just turned around and started making it. Kirishima was suddenly very busy drinking his coffee, and Deku didn't look up from his textbook.
Then came total catastrophe. Bakugou could never be quite certain how he did it, but one minute Kaminari was making the stupid mocha and the next minute his sleeve was on fire. On fire. Kaminari was on fire and Bakugou absolutely lost his shit- internally. Externally he was trying to beat Kaminari's burning sleeve with a towel as Kaminari freaked out and slammed into him in his panic. Jiro dumped her iced tea on Kaminari and then Bakugou realized the fire had spread to his sweatshirt and, in his own panic, stripped it off and stomped the flame out with his boot against the floor.
Everyone was staring at him, and he realized that in his panic he'd stripped off his shirt with the sweatshirt. He was standing in the middle of the coffee shop half naked, struggling to breathe from the scare and an anxiety attack threatening to explode at the sight of fire. Deku looked like he was going to stop breathing and die of fright, and Bakugou could only imagine how terrifying fire was to him too.
