Chapter 5. Contempt

It was a breezy afternoon, and the others, along with Karsyn, Euphoria and Idyllic were in the dungeon. It stank and reeked like rotting flesh.
"This place stinks..." Clairé said, holding her nose.
"Stop holding your nose, you're acting as if it's the worst thing in the worl-" Idyllic retorted.
"That's because it is!"
"It really isn't-"
"IT IS!"
"IS NOT!"
"IS"
"NOT!"
"You guys are acting like little children-" Euphoria interrupted.
Karsyn clenched his fists, "Says you."
Euphoria and Karsyn were busy arguing over what happened while the rest watched in awe.
"If you didn't push me then maybe we wouldn't have gotten into this mess!"
"And you doing nothing would have got us caught anyways!"
"NO!"
"YES!"
"NO!"
"YES!"
"I hate you...! Don't talk to me ever again!"
"I hate you more. I hate you, I hate you...I HATE YOU!"
Euphoria's eyes widened, he couldn't believe that Karsyn had said that. Karsyn went to Idyllic and sat by her side, "So...is he always like that?"
"Sometimes...I don't really know..."
"But you're his best friend!"
"Yeah, that doesn't mean I have to pay attention to every single detail about him..."
"True, but...does he really mean it? Does he really hate me? Is he never going to talk to me every again?"
"Why do you care? Is it because you have a crush on hi-"
"No. He's my friend." Karsyn facepalmed.
"You sure?"
"Yep."
"Well, no...he doesn't mean it, just give him time to cool off, he'll probably forget about it."
"Thank you for the advice, Idyllic."
"It's no biggie!"
Karsyn was paying so much attention to Idyllic, that he didn't realise that Clairé and Euphoria were talking as well. The conversation went between the lines of, "Just give him time, he'll forget about it." and "I didn't know he would act like that."
Karsyn held the book, and said, "Wanderer...how do we get out of here...?"
"Fine afternoon, Karsyn! You must be wondering how to get out of here, right?"
"Yeah...that's what I just sai-"
"Well, you need to apologise to Euphoria, and he does too, make up...just like best friends! And then...you're free."
"WHAT?! I'M NOT GOING TO APOLOGISE TO HIM!" Karsyn yelled out loud.
"...I think he heard." Idyllic whispered.
"I hope he didn't."
"Well, Wanderer said you have to apologise. But that apology has to be sincere, right?"
"I think so."
"Alright, go and apologise just like love-"
Karsyn walked towards Euphoria, he grabbed his hand and sat with him. Clairé looked at Idyllic who was giving a hand motion as if she wanted her to move away, so Clairé did move away from them.
"Hey."
"What do you want? And why are you holding my hand-"
"I'm sorry."
Euphoria pushed his hand away, and replied, "You're really not."
"I am."
"You're not."
"Am."
"Not."
"Am."
"Not."
"Am." Karsyn said, holding onto his hand tightly.
"Fine. But what for, huh?"
"I'm sorry, for shouting at you...and saying that I hated you, I don't hate you! I promise!"
"I know you're not really sorry."
"What...?"
"I'm going to find my way out of here, and leave you."
"No."

[Flashback]

I remember having an argument like this with my sister, Kahlo once. But the argument wasn't as serious as this. Instead, it was more of us arguing over who will greet my mother first. She was going out with my father one night, they didn't tell us where though, probably because we were around the age of thirteen or ten, something like that! It's kind of a similar thing to this...kind of not, but that doesn't matter.

Karsyn was sitting with Euphoria, who was still trying to figure how to get out of the dungeon before the ball.
"Euph, can you please forgive me...? I don't want to ruin tonight for you."
"You already have."
Karsyn laughed, "I thought you said you were never going to talk to me."
"Yeah, well I am, so be grateful."
Euphoria scratched his head in guilt,
"You know what, fine...sorry."
"Sorry? Since when are you this sincere?"
"I should be the one asking you that."
"I'm always sincere."
"Are you sureeee...???"
"No." Euphoria laughed.
"I knew it."
Euphoria pulled Karsyn in for a hug and he muttered, "I'm sorry...I swear, as long as we do this mission together, I'll never shout at you ever again."
Suddenly, Euphoria had a brainwave, he took the brooch off of Clairé's neck, and used the pin as a key. It took quite a while to unlock the dungeon doors but after a few attempts at fiddling with the brooch pin, it worked.
"I think it worked!"
"Yeah, it has!"
"Sorry about your brooch, Clairé...heh, I think the pin is broken a little bit..." Euphoria grinned, while handing the brooch back to her.
"It's fine, I have spares at home, anyways!" she said, following the rest to leave.
"Hurry up and go, the others are going!" Euphoria cried.
Karsyn put his hands on the neck of Euphoria and smiled, "So-"
"STOP DOING THIS LOVEY-DOVEY STUFF AND HURRY UP-" Idyllic demanded, while pulling the two of them.
They both blushed, Idyllic was right. They were acting as if they were a couple.
"Okay, it's best if we make a run for it...but first, let's check if the guards are gone. You guys should stay here, Idyllic, Karsyn, Clairé, let's go."
Euphoria grabbed onto Karsyn's hand and they went outside to go and check if the guards were outside. They were standing at a balcony, still holding hands.
Karsyn peered down, nobody was there, not even the guards. And not even Romero.
"Okay, nobody is there. Let's go to the-"
"Wait, before we do that. I need to ask you something..."
"What is it, Euph?"
"Were you seriousslyyy jealous that I was-"
"No." Karsyn interrupted.
"Really~?"
"Yes. I wasn't jealous."
"Alrighty then~!"
Karsyn slapped himself across the face and mumbled, "God. You're so annoying sometimes-"
"What was that?"
"Nothing!"
"Alright then, let's go!"
Euphoria let go of his hand and announced to the group that nobody was there. They sneakily hurried out of the palace and once they got out, they raced back to Lorenzo's tree house.

Lorenzo was grabbing a hanger until he heard panting from afar, he recognised the footsteps in the distance and opened the front door. It was Euphoria and the others.
"Oh, you're back! When I said you shouldn't come back, I did mean it."
"Shut up Lorenzo."
"How about you shut up Euph? Looks like someone will miss out the ball."
"OOOH!!! IF HE DOESN'T GO THEN KARSYN WON'T EIT-"
"OH MY FUCKING GOD, CAN YOU JUST SHUT UP FOR ONCE, IDYLLIC?"
"NAHHH!!! IT'S THE TRUTH THOUGH, BY THE WAY KARSYN HE HAS A MASSIVE CR-"
Idyllic was interrupted by Jolene, "Oh hello guys! You're back, good news. I managed to help Lorenzo with your outfits! We're all going tonight, but you won't see me around much, since I'm busy helping out in the estate."
"That's fine! How about I join you?" Artemis replied.
"Oh, are you sure?"
"Yeah."
"Well, the first thing we have to do is go to
"You guys should stop talking, plan your things out later, right now...we have a ball to attend!" Lorenzo inferred.
"Good idea. See you in a bit, I'm going to get ready."
"Same." the others agreed.
