Chapter 10. Dream Village

Everything was quiet, only the calm breeze was heard. Karsyn felt the breeze on the tips of his arm hairs, he opened his eyes and saw Euphoria, holding a rose and a book in his hand.
"Where the actual fu-"
Karsyn covered his mouth with his hand, he sounded more mature, he sounded more like an adult than a scruffy 16 year old boy. He dug his nails into the dirt that surrounded him.
"Calm down, it's only me."
"What..???"
"It's Euphoria. Remember?"
"Euph?"
"Where are we, why do I sound like this, why are we in the pouring rain as well-"
"Well, this place is called the Present."
"Oh..."
"Remember my mother?"
"Yeah..."
"Well, we still haven't found her."
"You still didn't answer my question, why do I sound like this-"
"Well...in the Present, two years go by, so you're 18 now. My mother told me that we should never go to this part of the forest, to be honest, she wouldn't let me go to any forest..."
"I'm pretty sure she cares about you, wait...what's that book?"
"Oh this? It's a memory book my mother made me."
"A memory book?"
"Yeah."
"Open it!"
Euphoria opened it and it showed a photo of him and Karsyn when they were little, around the age of nine.
"Wait, is that us...?"
"Yep."
He flicked to the next page, and to Karsyn's surprise, he saw a photo of Euphoria, him, his father and the Princess.
"How the-"
"Wait, we knew each other?"
"Yeah, pretty strange right, I forgot to tell you that when we were little, we were really close. Your father was...maybe still is a soldier working for my mother. Do you remember?"
"Sort of."
Karsyn looked down and saw that he wasn't wearing the clothes he was wearing to cross the portal, these clothes were more modern.
"Where's the book?"
"What book?"
"The one you had, remember?"
"...I don't know..."
Karsyn double checked and saw it laying next to him, and weirdly, a gun, more specifically a revolver, with the initials, "K.M." was carved on the gun. He quickly hid it away. Euphoria was behind him, running his fingers through Karsyn's hair.
"Your hair is a bit longer than before...but that doesn't matter."
"Where's the others?"
"What others...?"
"Idyllic, Clairé...Lorenzo!"
"Oh...I saw them, they're in some sort of cave."
"How do we get to that cave?"
"I saw a river of some sort...there was a boat...come I'll show you!"
Karsyn took Euphoria's hand and they both ran to the place Euphoria described. This place had a little stream, leading up to a big tunnel in a cave.
"Hop in." Euphoria said, chuckling slightly.
Karsyn got in, and the little boat drifted towards the cave. Karsyn peered down at the water, and looked at his reflection. Euphoria was right, his hair was longer than before.
"DUCK!!!"
They were soon going through the cave, and so they ducked until they were inside. The cave was beautiful, filled with crystals and little shiny rocks. Karsyn was alerted by a horrific evil laughter, he squinted hard, until he could finally figure out who was laughing. At first, he thought it was Romero who was inside, but he realised how stupid his thought was, because Romero couldn't magically cross a portal with them and end up with them.
"Who goes there?" he cried out, with his voice slowly echoing through the walls.
"SSSssss...pennnn...ceerrrrr..."
"What the hell?" Euphoria commented, looking at Karsyn with a disgusted look on his face.
"Spencer, the name is." a man with honey blonde hair and glasses said, looking back at them on the boat that was slowly coming towards him.
Karsyn saw the others, they were all delighted once they saw Karsyn. They all looked so different, Idyllic was more mature, her hair was a bit shorter than usual. Lorenzo's hair grew slightly, and Jolene was more mature.
"You guys have changed!" Karsyn stated, getting off of the boat.
"Wait, who's this-"
"My name is Spencer. I look after this cave!"
"That's nice."
Jolene's eyebrows raised, "Hey, Spencer...whatever the hell your name is! Do you know anything about a princess?"
"Yeah, are you referring to Princess Séraphine?"
Jolene and Euphoria looked at each other and looked back at Spencer.
"Yeah...how do you know her?"
"Everyone knows her...duh!"
"Not everyone." Euphoria interrupted.
"Oh my gosh! You must be her son...Euphoria, right?"
"Yep, that's me...but wait, how do you know me?"
"Do you remember the Maisonettes...?"
"Maisonettes...Maisonettes...no, I don't remember anybody with that last name."
"It's fine, you'll probably figure out sooner or later."
"Yeah sure we will. Okay, we're leaving now, bye." Euphoria retorted blandly.
"Bye!"
"...What a goddamn idiot."
"Don't say that, Euphoria."
"I can say that, I'm the princess' son!" he answered, jokingly.
"I'm being serious. Don't say that, he was only trying to help-"
"Help us with what? We don't need any fucking help!"
"Okay then..."
Karsyn opened the book to get the map out, but strangely, the map was gone. The page about Princess Séraphine was gone.
"Uh...Euph, I think we have a problem."
"What's the problem now? You left something? It's fine we'll jus-"
Karsyn held the empty page in front of him, "No. I haven't left anything. It's this."
"Wait...where's the-"
Idyllic let out a loud gulp, "Uhm...guys, maybe we should head back..."
"No! We can't you dummy!"
They heard a loud growling in the distance, the growling slowly turned into hissing. Idyllic looked up and saw a creature, with horns, and wings.
"Who the hell are you-"
"I'm Αττίκους."
"What kind of gibberish name is that-"
"Oh sorry, it's Atticus in English!"
"Atticus, huh? Another idiot just like Spencer..."
"You seriously have to stop being so rude!" Clairé laughed with Euphoria.
"No! No!"
"Wait...Atticus, huh?"
"Your name rings a bell...wait, who is your mother?"
"Demetrius..."
"AHA! Wait, what..." Idyllic gasped.
"That must mean that you're-"
"MY BROTHER?!"
"MY SISTER?!"
Atticus had jet black hair, just like Idyllic, it was curly, and he looked exactly like Idyllic. He couldn't believe that he had seen his sister for the first time."
"But wait. There's no proof that you're my sister-"
"Exactly the point that I was going to get to, there's a million Demetrius' in the world." Euphoria mentioned.
"Just shut up." Idyllic whispered.
"Okay, wait...if you're really siblings, or something, what is your family surname?"
"Apolline."
"Welp, that ends it all, you're siblings." Karsyn sarcastically grinned.
"But wait, why are you here?"
"I was looking for our mother."
"Here?"
"Yes."
"We were looking for the Princess."
"Princess Séraphine?"
"Yep."
"Well, do you mind if I join you?"
"We don't mind! You can if you want, but it's going to be pretty long."
"Oh, I don't care."
Atticus put his arm around Idyllic, and she began to cry, "Hey...shh...why are you crying?"
"I just...I-"
"Tears of joy." Euphoria interfered.
"Mhm." Idyllic belowed, still sobbing.
"Haha, well I'm also happy to see you too."
"I missed you so much. I haven't seen you for my whole life."
"I missed you more."
"So, Karsyn. Where do you think the Princess is?" Kahlo asked, bringing up a new topic because she hated all of the affection that Idyllic was giving towards Atticus.
"I don't know. The map is gone, so I guess we're going to have to look."
"How about you ask Wanderer-"
"Magic doesn't work here. Once we get to a certain part of the area, named Το Χωριό των Ονείρων-"
"I mean, Dream Village, sorry...I was brought up on Greek."
"It's fine!"
"Uh well, as I was saying, once we get to that village, I have to collect something. It will help us on this search, and by the way, I will be doing all of the talking since, mostly they speak Greek."
They all nodded and continued walking with Atticus. Soon, they came across a lot of fancy and rich houses, there was a piece of cloth over a sign that said, "Το Χωριό των Ονείρων."
The cloth was embroidered with lots of colourful patterns and designs.
"Come with me." he said, doing a hand motion as if he wanted them to follow him.
A little girl cried out, "Αττίκους!" (Atticus!)
"Γεια σου, Thea! Είναι ο αδερφός σου τριγύρω?" (Hello, Thea! Is your brother around?)
"Ναί! Σε έψαχνε, μου είπε ότι θα έρθεις αργότερα να πάρεις κάτι-? Είναι αλήθεια-?" (Yes! He was looking for you, he told me you would come later to pick up something-? Is this true-?)
"Mhm!"
"H...Hello!" the girl said, shyly hiding behind Atticus.
"Hello!" Euphoria said, looking up at the girl.
"Her name is Thea, she's a bit shy..."
Atticus giggled, following Thea to her brother.
"Αττίκους! Πώς είσαι?" (Atticus! How are you?)
"Θα μπορούσε να ήταν καλύτερα. Αλλά και πάλι, τι έχεις να μου δώσεις?" (Could be better. But then again, what do you have to give to me?)
Thea's brother handed Atticus a scroll. He smiled at him as he handed it over, and Atticus looked at the others.
"His name is Valen, he can speak full English, just like me-"
"Hello guys!"
"Hi!"
"What are you doing with Atticus?"
"Ψάχνουμε για την Πριγκίπισσα." (We're looking for the Princess.)
Valen nodded and responded, "Ah. Well, good thing I've given Atticus this scroll. It has a map on the other side."
"Thank you!"
"Φεύγουμε τώρα, ευχαριστώ για τον χρόνο σας." (We're leaving now, thanks for your time.)
"It's no problem, see you later Atticus!"
Valen waved to Atticus and they all headed out of the village. Idyllic stared at her older brother and laughed, "You have to seriously teach me some Greek..."
"I will, after we've found the Princess...and mom."
"Did our mother speak Greek?"
"Oh yes, she did. Very fluently."
"How come I don't speak Greek?"
"You were raised to speak English, honey." Atticus bantered, flicking his hair.
Atticus opened the scroll and pointed to a pasture of grass, "Here is where we'll be staying, only for tonight. And then tomorrow, we'll go and search."
It was already dark outside and they were probably going to arrive at the pasture of grass even later during the night, so they made the decision to start heading. It wasn't far from where they were standing, it was a really short walk, somewhere between two minutes or five minutes.
Soon, they arrived and they were so tired, they couldn't walk any further. Atticus sat down next to Idyllic, who was finished talking to Clairé and they both fell asleep, meanwhile, Karsyn was chatting to Euphoria with Lorenzo dead asleep next to them.
"So, now that you're 18, Euphoria...can't you choose to be a royal?"
"Yeah...about that, I'm choosing to wait until I find my mother, and I'm pretty sure being a royal comes with a lot of responsibilities."
"That's a smart choice."
"Heh...I guess it is."
"I think I'm going to sleep."
"You go ahead and sleep then."
Karsyn fell asleep, and Euphoria checked to see if he was asleep, and he was. Euphoria took the book out of his hand and opened the page about Romero.
"Jeez, this man really has a problem with everything-"
Suddenly, Euphoria heard a gunshot from the sky, but at the exact same time this happened, there was a snap of a branch.
"What the hell?"
There was a figure, it was dark and Euphoria couldn't see who it was so he tackled the person to the ground and stared at them in the eyes, "WHO. GOES. THERE?"
"Jeez, it's just me Euphoria."
It was Atticus, but wait, he was just asleep as soon as he turned his back.
"Wait...so, you heard that as well?"
"Yeah."
"I wonder what that was..."
"Should we check?"
"No, it's too scary to check."
"Whatever, we'll just see if this happens again tomorrow morning."
"Alright."
Atticus lost focus on Euphoria's eyes and gazed at the book in his hand.
"Isn't that Karsyn's book?"
"Yeah, it is. Why?"
"Why do you have it?"
"I wanted to read it."
"Ah."
"Why what do you think I wanted to do with it?"
"Oh...nothing."
"Hmm, okay...well I'm going to go to sleep, see you tomorrow."
"See you."
They both went back to their spots and dozed off to sleep. It was a very cold and chilly night, but they didn't care.
