A little girl gasped as she woke from another nightmare. Her body trembled as the cool air in the room touched her skin. She was soaked in sweat again, her damp hair matted to her head.

The woman stirred next to her in the large bed, sensing the girl's movement and pulled her trembling body into a soothing embrace. The girl thought the woman's voice was soft and calming in the darkness of the bedroom.

"What did you dream about, Angel?"

Death.

"Ah. That will happen. Do you remember why? Do you know what you are, Angel?"

A voyeur.

The woman nodded. "That's right. Only women can be Voyeurs, Angel... You can change fate and save a life, but it comes at a cost," the woman whispered against the little girl's hair. "Do you remember what I taught you, Angel?"

When you stare into the dark abyss of death, death will surely stare back at you.

The woman stilled and pulled the girl away from her. Breaking from the comfort of the woman's embrace, the little girl looked up in distress.

"Who taught you that, Angel?" the woman asked, her face suddenly cold and serious.

The priestess.

"Remember my voice, Angel. You have nothing to fear in the dark abyss."

The little girl stared wide eyed at the woman.

"Remember my words, Angel. The threads of fate do not hold you."

The little girl nodded at the woman again.

Happy that the little girl agreed and understood her, the woman pulled her back into her embrace.

"Now. What did I teach you, Angel?" the woman asked the girl again.

The small girl was quiet before staring up at the woman with her onyx colored eyes.

Never fear the dark abyss. Embrace death.

"Good girl. You have no fate, my angel, but your destiny is death," the woman whispered against her hair.

The girl nodded against the woman's chest and drifted back to sleep. The woman held the small girl and stifled a quiet sob. She would do anything for her daughter to live happily, but it was not her destiny. No matter how many times she changed the path, the girl's destiny was death. She could only prepare her for that end.
