the recess was still in session, tyler was in the bathroom, throwing cold water on his face. his nerves were high, especially after the scene him and his father made. the bathroom door swung open.
"do you have any idea, the torture you're putting me through, you damn fuck-up."
tyler tensed up.
"you're such a damn child. you have no idea what you're doing."
"i'm not a child," tyler pushed.
"yes. you are."
"i'm not your toy," tyler turned to his father. "my mom is not your toy. i know what you did to her. even when i wasn't around."
mr. joseph face was pale.
"maddie shouldn't be here. you and i both know that. for multiple reasons. but the reason of the fact is you didn't have consent. you're a disgust in every single way."
tyler could see his father was on the edge, and he knew exactly how to push him over .
"granny would hate the person you are now."
tyler was right.

"tyler. are you okay?"
tyler opened his eye.
"m-mom?"
"jesus christ, tyler. what just happened?"
he smiled.
"i just secured our case."

tyler's mom carried him back into the court room. his new suit was all ripped up, his face was oozing blood, and his eye was already swelled shut. the crowd of people gasped as tyler was carried in and collapsed in his chair.
"order! order in the court!"
the judge yelled. he looked at tyler, and then opened his mouth.
"who.. did this to you?"

after pulling up the security cameras in the hallways in front of the mens' bathroom, the judge concluded that mr. joseph was the one who beat up his son. with all the proof he needed, tyler and maddie were given to their mom with full custody rights.

tyler had his earphones in on the car ride home. his sister was fast asleep in the car. he was smiling, and his mom, for the first time in a long time, was smiling too.

when tyler and his family arrived home, the first thought he had was about josh. he was gonna take him somewhere nice. and ask him to be his boyfriend. but first. he had to tell his mom.
