You get what you need
Dean Winchester/Castiel"Claire, for the last time stop hitting your brother and put your shoes on!"
Castiel Novak rounded the corner of the hallway just in time to see his daughter boink his son on the head with the empty wrapping paper tube and scutter off up the stairs.
Jack stared at him from his spot on the floor, all big eyes and a frown.
"Hey, Jack. You all right? That didn't hurt much did it?"
Jack seemed to ponder the question for a while before shaking his head and grinning a big semi-toothless smile.
Cas expertly picked the boy up with one hand while taking a sip from his, now cold, coffee.
"Claire! We're going to be late!"
"I'm coming! I'm coming!" The little blonde girl jumped down the last step, her oversized purple backpack bouncing against her back.
"You ready Jack?" Cas glanced at the boy in his arm.
"Uh huh!" he nodded, enthusiasticly and Castiel wondered when the thrill of going to school would enevitably diminish.
"OK, let's go. Claire you have the gift?" Cas opened the front door and and grabbed his shoulder bag. His daughter held up the gift, she had been adamant about wrapping it herself so the toy car poked out from between the paper.
"Yep, let's go Dad we're gonna be late!!!" she yelled running past him and parroting his previous words back at him.
Cas rolled his eyes and put Jack back on the ground to lock the door. He turned back to see Claire and Jack holding hands and waiting patiently at the door of his truck. From across the front lawn he could see that Claire was babbling on about something and Jack was hanging on to her every word. The sight warmed his heart and he couldn't surpress the smile that blossomed on his face.
He strutted across the grass and unlocked the car. He made sure his kids were securely strapped in before slipping into the front seat and driving off to Lawrence Elementary and Kindergarten.
__________
Dean Winchester knocked on his son's door before entering. You know privacy and all that jazz.
The homemade cake with the lit candle swayed dangerously as he walked into the dark room.
"Ben? Buddy? Time to get up!" he flicked the light switch with his elbow illuminating the still bare room his son was occupying.
Ben was sitting up in his bed a tired smile on his face.
"Happy birthday, Buddy!" Dean said softly. He sat on the side of Ben's bed grinning at his son who stared in awe at the chocolate cake with the candle and the icing and the sprinkles. Yes, Dean had once again gone all out. He'd never had a birthday cake in bed so that's what Ben was getting, simple as that.
"How old are you now, kid?" Dean asked.
"This much!" Ben threw up six fingers.
"Two hands huh?"
"Yep, can I have cake for breakfast?"
"Getting older, and of course you can have cake for breakfast! But only if I can also have some?" Dean leaned down to whisper the last part in Ben's ear.
"Of course, you can daddy! I love you!"
"I love you too son! Now get ready for school. You have your party later remember?" Dean smiled at the agreeing hmmm before carefully picking up the cake and walking out of the room and down into the kitchen, setting the table for a nutritious breakfast of cake and orange juice.
