—— ———

General Xuan Zhen, Mu Qing, couldn't remember the last time he felt such confusion, not he had to confide it to anyone nor did he feel such agonizing pain from the whip marks on his back.

He was walking upstairs to check on Dianxia, Xie Lian.

Xie Lian, the royal prince of Lian Le, was attacked in his bed and before he passed out, the last one he saw was Mu Qing's face. Under the automatic suspicion of Hua Cheng and Feng Xin, he was trialed by his fellow martial gods.

Jun Wu stared down at him with cold eyes staring down hard enough to freeze him in place. How dare he attack heaven's most beloved prince, Xie Lian? "What do you have to say for yourself, general Xuan Zhen?"

Mu Qing swallowed, "my lord...I"

"I'd say he did it out of jealousy of his Highness's position!"

"I didn't!" he cried out in despair.

"I knew there was something malignant about you...I'd always thought Dianxia took someone like you as it was out of pity.." Hua Cheng's hateful scowl and his deathly cold voice rang, his tone was dripping with venom and mustered malice. Why did gege ever keep this one as his trusted companion?

"No, you bastard! I-"

"Bastard! Don't you fuckin' lie to us, you've always been rude of Dianxia's grace and kindness! I bet you were waiting for the day when he's off his guard and struck at the moment! We should've let you rot in that prison since you killed Cuoco and attacked me!" Feng Xin's boisterous voice boomed with malice and vengeance. He never trusted Mu Qing to begin with and it was vice versa.

"A son of a criminal! The apple doesn't fall from the tree!"

Mu Qing bristled, he and his mother were aware he had a past of thievery but he was a good father to him and husband to his mother. These fools do not know the whole story nor do they deserve to know either!

He remembered everyone's sneer at his attempts to defend himself. Eventually, he was stripped of his position, his sword was surrendered as well as he ignored the way Feng Xin, Jun Wu, and Hua Chēng smirked in satisfaction as they watched.

Even his most trusted subordinates, who practiced investigating facts, rationality, and details, were skeptical of him and didn't know how to defend him as he wasn't viewed exactly as a figure of uprightness to them either.

What did Mu Qing expect? He'd always be the one in the wrong; disregarded no matter what he does, even when tries his hardest to make an effort to do the right thing and it is necessary. He wasn't even born into royalty.

So as he sat in his cell, he didn't know what to do. "A-niang, A-die...I need you guys...." his voice choked out.

Then he felt a peculiar energy near him, "who's there?!" He wasn't in the mood; he wasn't even done languishing with his fate.

Strangely, when he looked outside his cell to see a dark carriage that was carried by a large horse. He rubbed his eyes and doubled check. Nope, it's real!

Not only that, the horse stopped to look him in the eye. Mu Qing's eyes widened, and did it just nodded to the right as if it was telling "come here."

It could be a demon! It came closer and closer until it got near to Mu Qing's face. Mu Qing had never seen a face so fierce-looking on an animal, in particular. To show him he wasn't scared of him, he glared back. Was it Mu Qing's imagination or did that horse seem to have grinned in pride?

Then he heard his cell door being opened, he heard a familiar voice. He turned around to see Xie Lian awakened.

"Dianxia..." Mu Qing breathed.

Xie Lian grinned and put on a determined look, "Mu Qing, my friend! Please come with me! I will explain to everyone what had transpired and plead for your innocence!"

"Dianxia, I-!"
To his surprise and Xie Lian's horror, the horse grabbed Mu Qing by his sleeve, and without warning, before Mu Qing had a chance a react, he vanished into the air.
Xie Lian was frozen.

He didn't know whether to laugh or cry but when his friend disappeared, he came close to crying.
Mu Qing, his bodyguard, and a friend had vanished. "I need to explain this to everyone!"

With that, he left the empty cell.
------ ------
Mu Qing heard something as he regained his senses. He saw the horse with the carriage was there. He was about to stomp on it when he eyed a mirror in the woods. Then to his further surprise, it spoke, "Dearly Beloved
Flower of cold magnificence,
Truly your beauty will glow the most radiant of them all,
Mirror, Mirror on the wall, those who are guided by the Dark Mirror as long as your deepest longings, take the offered hand that emerges before you.
For you and them, you must rescue them all, Martial God Mu Qing, time is of the essence!
Never release that hand!"

The voice said.

Mu Qing gapped and shook his head to see if he was dreaming, it was real.

The steed beckoned him to move toward the carriage with his own will. With great hesitation, he stepped inside. The carriage horse neared the mirror where it held a burning green flame. Mu Qing reached a hand to it and when a hand emerged before him through the mirror. It seized his hand as he took hold of it and for the second time, he felt his senses go cold.
