-Knock knock.
The set of knocks at my front door knocked me out of my sleep. I pondered whether or not I should answer it before deciding to fall back asleep.
-KNOCK KNOCK
'Just keep ignoring it, they probably want to sell me something,' I thought to myself before attempting to sleep harder.
-BANG BANG BANG
"Oh you gotta be kidding me," I cried out before throwing my blankets off of myself and walking towards the door. Glancing at the clock I noticed the time it was.
'Three in the afternoon?! Crap, I need to be doing stuff.'
Rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I dashed towards the door, tripping over nothingness in the process. Making a quick recovery, I made it to the door and opened it to reveal a guy in a lab coat and a clipboard. Upon seeing me, he gave a tired smile.
"Oh, well hello there. Would you happen to be Mr. Matthew," he paused to flip through the papers on his clipboard before planting his finger over something, "Johnson?"
"Yep, that would be me. Whatcha need?"
"I would like to offer you a job for Laminax Laboratories. We have run low on staff recently and we are looking for anyone who would be interested in a job."
'A job? Well, I have been needing a job as of late,' I thought to myself.
"What would I have to do?" Hearing my interest, a smile appeared on his face and he quickly handed me a card.
"You would be a researcher. It is, really, an easy position. All you got to do is write stuff down, anyone could do it. The card I handed you gives you our location and some other information. Just come on in, sign some papers, and bam! You get the position. Plus you get a place to stay, due to the labs being so isolated, of course!"
Hearing that my eyes widened in surprise, that easy? No way, I would have to be dumb not to jump at this opportunity. "Sure, I'll take the job! When can I start?"
"Right away! Just show up," he tapped a few times on the address on the card, "and you will be one of us." I nodded my head in response before he began walking away. "You will be contributing to a very interesting field of research. Every subj-" he coughed a few times, "scientist that joins us helps a lot!" He recovered from his coughing before smiling and waving goodbye, promptly walking to another house.
Brushing over that coughing part, I walked back to the house and began putting a bunch of stuff together. Grabbing the essentials... I mean, three times the amount of stuff needed (can never be too safe) and packing it. Upon finishing, and putting on some day clothes, I walked out to my car to begin the drive. Though I felt something was off while driving, I brushed that off as well. That was until I realized I had no idea where I was going and had actually been driving away from the lab. Crud, where is that card? Oh, here it is. Mentally facepalming, I input the location and began eagerly driving in the right direction. After all... what could go wrong?
