'It has been a few days since the incident with the Carneline and thankfully nothing that scary has happened since. I got to research a few of the other gootraxians, the first being one called Fed: a wolflike gootraxian that wears a fedora; hazzy: a fox with red fur; and lastly a shork, which was, well, a shark. Or is it a land shark, cuz they can walk? I don't really know. They were all really cool, not as cool as the Carneline (even after what it did to those guards), but still pretty cool. But I really can't shake the feeling of dread knowing that those gootraxians could also have been other people, just like those guards.'
"Hey man, you spaced out again." Liam snapped me out of my thoughts. I responded with a frown.
"Sorry man, I'm still caught up in what happened."
"Here catch," He tossed a soda at me. "This'll help clear your mind a bit. Come on, let's head to the cafeteria and get your mind off of it." I gave him a small nod while we walked down to the cafeteria. I took a sip of my soda and jolted awake at the sweetness of it. We entered the cafeteria and went up to the window to ask for something to eat. My eyes stared at the list of food items they had, I suddenly felt Liam nudge my arm with his. Causing me to look up to see what he wanted. Only to also see a gootraxian that resembled some sort of ice cream cat with sprinkles on it managing the counter, cool... hold on a second.
"OH HECK NO!" I yelled, jumping back. My loud voice startled the creature while Liam quickly grabbed my wrist and pulled me further away.
"W-we should leave," Liam said as we began to slowly back away, only to be stopped by some guy wearing sunglasses with purple lenses.
"Heya there, why are you two so scared?" He said while effortlessly pushing us both back towards the ice cream cat gootraxian at the window. All the while we were frozen in fear, completely unable to move. "C'mon bud, they don't bite."
We stayed there for what felt like an eternity. Only for a screaming rubber chicken to get suddenly shoved toward my face, causing me to fly backward and fall. Noticing that they successfully scared me, his smile became bigger and he broke into laughter.
"Pfff, c'mon guys, stop overreacting," he was nearly dying from laughter. "Scared by a rubber chicken? That's a first!" He spun the chicken on the tip of his finger before proceeding to shove the whole thing into his coat pocket, but neither of us responded. This caused him to raise an eyebrow behind his sunglasses. "Hello, you two are still alive, right?" Our lack of response caused him to scratch his head in confusion and snap his fingers at us a few times before turning to the gootraxian at the food counter. "You think they're dead? I can't be the one to cause another accident like this."
The creature almost seemed to shrug in response while he turned back to us, pulling us up and pushing us over to some chairs to sit. After doing this he vaulted behind the food counter and began looking for something. He returned with two ice cream sandwiches and shoved them in Liam's and my hands. The cold feeling drew me out of my fear freeze, somehow. He vaulted back over the counter and began digging around under it.
"W-wait, so this was all just a sick prank?" Liam said after breaking out of his fear freeze, prompting the man to pop his head up over the counter with a smile.
"Nah, I just came in here to grab something. Only to find you two freaking out, so I kinda thought it would be funny to mess with ya," he said in a very upbeat tone.
I released a sigh, "You gave me a heart attack... so that thing next to you is a person in an ice cream cat costume, right?" I said in a sort of hopeful tone while still recovering from my partial heart attack.
"Them? Nah, they are an actual Sprinklekit."
"Wait, so they are real?!" Liam exclaimed, earning a "yep" from the guy.
"But shouldn't they be behind glass, in case they," I paused for a moment, "y'know?"
"What? Of course not!" He exclaimed while standing back up and putting his arm on the gootraxian and pulling them close before ruffling their... hair fur? The gootraxian seemed to be happy with the attention and began purring. "They are my friendo. Besides, they're friendly, they even call themselves... Sprinkles! They want to manage the snacks here and whatnot. As a replacement cuz the last person disappeared after getting into the ice cream supply." While saying this he retracted his arm from "Sprinkles'" head and leaned a bit on the counter with one of his arms, adjusting his sunglasses while looking at us questionably.
"You both seemed to overreact over a mostly harmless creature? Did something spook you two?" But before we could respond he reached under the counter while maintaining eye contact before pulling out a baguette. "Aha, found it! Welp, never mind me then, this was getting kinda awkward anyways." He said while vaulting the counter. Spinning the baguette with his hands while walking out of the room before stopping and turning towards Liam, who had found a screwdriver on the ground. "Gonna need that from you," he quickly snatched it out of Liam's hands before exiting the room. While he was doing this, I realized something important that my brain didn't process, this was Dr. F.
"Wait!" I quickly said while jumping out of the chair and running after him, "I need to ask you a few questions." Only to turn the corner and see that he was gone.
'Dang, didn't even get to ask him anything.'
I looked down and noticed a purple pup wagging its tail and looking at me while holding a rubber chicken with a note on it.
Reaching down and grabbing it. The note said that I could keep the chicken because he already had plenty. It also said that it could... maybe save my life someday?
'Huh?'
It also read, "FACE YOUR FEARS!" with a little smiley face at the end. I just ignored it and attempted to shove it into one of my inner lab coat pockets. It released a few of its battle cries before eventually getting silenced in my pocket.
I started to head back toward the cafeteria.
'Seriously Man? Did I seriously let this chicken scare the life out of me?'
I placed my hand on my chest and felt my still rapidly beating heart, before turning back and seeing Liam uncomfortably ordering something from the sprinklekit. It was offering a reassuring smile in return. Sighing, I turned to walk back into the room to get something to eat too. Maybe I can catch Dr. F again some other time, as long as he doesn't disappear for multiple days again.
